As for title, is just me and my setup? (1 Apple TV, 1 Airport Express, 1 MacBookPro 2014)
The new Music works fine and I can listen through multiple speakers using AirPlay.
The same doesn't apply if I tune into Beats 1 or the BBC for that matter.
Any idea if this is a bug or a feature?

Just to make it more understandable here are a couple of screenshots of this somehow awkward behavior.
I can play some stations but not others.
Like you Beats 1 and BBC World Service can't play over AirPlay, but others seem to be fine.
It may be a licensing issue as they are 'live' streams where the other stations are curated playlists.
I am seeing the same thing with my MacBook Pro and Airport Express/Apple TV. If it's a licensing restriction, it's a very odd one, as AirPlay is the wireless equivalent of me running an audio cable from my laptop to my speaker system. I am going to report this one as a bug through iTunes Feedback.
It is not a licensing issue, in fact I can use Airplay for Beats1 on iPad just fine.
I did that yesterday already and I have just tried and it works fine now as well.
This seems to be an issue only related to Mac, I confirm Airplay for Beats1 radio is not working using iMac.

Hum, not exactly the same thing, IMHO.
Airplay on iOS allows beaming your music to one device at a time only, whereas with iTunes on OSX you can use Airplay to send your music to multiple speakers at once and without silencing the Mac you are using.
Doesn't sound like a bug to me.

That is a good point, then it might indeed be a licensing issue for "live" streams...
If it turns out not to be a bug then I guess we'd be forced to use 3rd party apps (airfoil for example) to overcome this.

Me neither - looks like a in-built feature which I'm also experiencing. But what's the point on listening to the new Zane Lowe-curated, cutting-edge, trend-setting radio station on tinny lap top speakers while the Klipsch speakers are sitting idly by? Seems a bit ridiculous.

Airplay selector is not showing on radio stations...
Probably it's an Apple feature - like the round G3 mouse!!!

I noticed this too, the icon disappears once the station starts to play and load the thumbnail. Looks almost more like a GUI issue.
If you are using iTunes on a Mac, on newer OS X you can stream all system sounds to an airplay device. Look in Sounds Sys Pref and select the desired output device. Or to shortcut, hit Alt+volume icon at the top of screen and chose the Airplay device.
Same here. Can't play Beats 1 from my iMac to my BW Zep Air. Works with everything but radio in iTunes and has been like that even before Beats 1 came out.
While airplay doesn't work within iTunes for Beats1 (no idea why), it does work at the system level if you're using a mac.
Alt + Click on the speaker in your system tray and instead of a volume slider, you'll get a list of available output and input devices. Simply select your airplay device from the output list and iTunes Radio will start coming through your speakers.
The only downside is that all system sounds (new email alerts, whatever else you're doing on your computer) also come through the speakers, which is why it'd be swell if they let you do it in itunes.
Agree, it is a problem limited to iTunes on the Mac. I'm glad I can stream Beats through my iPad in the meantime.
I have this same issue. Here's my work around. Option click on speaker icon in status bar to select systemwide audio output (see pic below). This works fine for beats 1.
