iOS 8.4 slow wake on iPad Air 2

After upgrading to iOS 8.4, I noticed that there is a 1-2 second delay before the screen turns on after waking it up. This generally happens if my iPad has been locked for a few minutes and I'm certain that this wasn't present in iOS 8.3. Has anyone else noticed this behavior? I'm going to submit a bug report to Apple, but wanted to reach out to the community first...

iPad Air 2 under iOS 8.4 and wake is instantaneous here, whether from the sleep/wake switch or Smart Cover.

Yeah, I got that, thanks.

I was wondering whether anybody has updated from iOS 8.4.0 to iOS 8.4.1 and noticed any slight improvement in the wake delay.

- not that it makes much difference, as it is still irritating 😉

I know there are far, far worse things in the world, but we pay a premium for the latest devices and expect a certain level of product quality...

- can't believe the developers don't notice these basic things when testing the devices, and that they are still not fixed despite all these comments and feedback (assuming any of it is read)

My issue with lag is definitely back. It was not possible to see if I had avoided the issue as I reported.

Now that the almost two second delay is back, there was a difference, not back to instant but back to full delay.

No problem with rotation reduced motion on or off. Again, I have landscape mode locked all the time. I had it locked to landscape mode during update. However, I do not have landscape locked on my iphone5 and that is fine as well. Since I don't have fingerprint scanning I can not test for delays.

if Apple is having trouble with the new iPad, not saying they are or not because I don't know, all time is being spent on the new iPad with the bigger screen. Than has to be perfect and is why they have released 9 to everyone so they are thousands more, happy as ?, beta testing for free.

if this new 12x9 ? has one glitch, it's end game. The lag is such a minor point on Apple's to do list, all this is doing is whipping everyone into a frenzy. It will be fixed when it's fixed or not. It's not a big deal, really. I'll get a new iPad every year regardless because there's nothing else to consider.

If competitors have not gotten the lesson of building a product that lasts a year instead of four better releases of the same product by now, they never will.

Couple that with, I am definitely not an Apple fan and never was. There are just way less problems than any competitor. I went though 15 years of the other brands, using them primarily for music. I never got it. All I had to do is spend the money for the Apple of my choice and my song output would be double of what it is, company net rated of over a thousand tunes available. They aren't good, polished and game changer's, just odd songs. I only needed to please myself and just keep going, many written on the fly.

The aggravation of crashes, blue screens, loss of primary's as well as backups caused me to lose interest in music.

You can see why I don't care that Apple wants to bring Apple Music to the world to get a third from every musician on the planet, whether they think they are good, whether they are horrible, whether one person in the world thinks they are good, whether, they are the writer, singer, musician, the stealing coach of music, it just doesn't matter, Apple will do what they do, like they do !

Their obsession with it and music updates 1 and 2 caused the two second delay. If this isn't fine tuned, which in my opinion, should be optional for the next iPad and iPhone, we will all be here talking about the two second delay which was totally avoidable.

> This issue has been fully resolved under iOS 9.

Unfortunately, it hasn't. I upgraded from 8.3 to 9.0.1 last week and I've been experiencing the wake-up lag issue on my 5s ever since. It also has a habit of opening up Siri after it finally wakes up, even though I only click the home button and don't hold it down.

I hope 9.1 will resolve this, although this guy's Beta 2 preview doesn't really show much for improvement for other things (particularly the well-known delay after pressing on an icon to open an app):

Nothing has been resolved with iOS 9. With the update .01 nothing has been resolved.

The only help we can be is to enjoy what works. This will be the most buggy edition of apple history.

So, grin. Have the best time with your purchase you can. To write about problems will not fix anything. We all are aware that if one thing is fixed, it will affect all systemwide. This is good. It is the best fail safe we have. The software will always be flawed and will drive the writer's insane.

As for myself, I am getting close to the point of where I was with the last system I used for 15 years. Why?

I was able to somehow avert all the problems associated with all up dates until 8. The fixes started multiplying problems to the point of I found I was no longer interested in learning tech. My desire was gone. Instead of making my life simpler, this was making my life hard.

I feel I am not able to release facts of a convesation with a girl who saw my inablility to cope with the ever increasing problems and the redundancy associated with having to go to three obscure places to do one simple task while it could all be on one page. My problem was not unique. That's as far as I feel I can go on that topic.

Fortunately, this year there was nothing that interested me except for Apple TV. I was granted a year pass from upgrading devices each year since iPad 2.

The last straw, so to speak, was after downloading the 8 series, I had gotten use to the instant on. Why I let the issue go? I realized apple would not cut their head off to spite customers. It had to be a hack where the instant on was causing problems security wise.

With 9.0 and housekeeping 9.01 with many others slated in quick succession I look at it as consumer protection. After getting along with 5 gig of free memory since I began, iOS 9 by default turned all settings to on in the 'cloud' to save to my portion of a hard drive somewhere, everything. As a result, all pictures taken for years and years with HDR, Do Not Save Originals, suddenly were there, saved on the storage hard drive.

I found that I had to pay .99$ to correct a mistake I was not informed of. No problem. However, the saves were cumulative and out of five free gig for two devices with 1.3 gig left, I was now at 26.3, then 49.5. The easy downgrade required a call to support, it was not as simple as flipping back to normal. So, for the first time, I have no backup, even though the service was cancelled and reset, some state laws require refunds be given to comply with law.

This was silly for .99$ but it was the only way to get my free 5 gig back. An ensuing email told me my backup of pictures would be erased .... in 30 days. Great, that was something I had already taken care of long ago, now, thirty days with no backup.

All this to say, get use to problems or don't buy the product. I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed the creepiness of the last release show. Something wasn't right, Most of the people there looked scared, at the very least, extremely uncomfortable. the point had finally come, one size does not fit all.

I am forced to now think of all the problems as a good thing. The software will never accomplish what it is suppose to. Each additional improvement with come with it's own distinct set of other fixes. It is the failsafe, the hole where those with skills can penetrate and stop devious behavior. If this wasn't possible, we would be cooked !

So I finally figured out the root cause of the slow-to-wake problem on my iPhone 5s, although it took me a full year to figure out. 😝

It turns out the custom wallpaper I was using was causing the wake up delay. The wallpaper was simply a screen capture of an older wallpaper from iOS 6 or 7 that I had carried over. I didn't even think to reset my wallpaper until I recently stumbled across a couple of posts on the web about this. So now I'm using the wallpapers that were built into iOS 10, and the phone never takes more than a half second to wake when it's been off for more than a few minutes. This should also apply to other iPhones and iPads; my iPad Air never had the slow-wake problem because I always used a default wallpaper.

On a completely unrelated note: Halfcack, I don't think anyone actually read your '99 cent' novella. 😝 Let's please keep to the topic of this conversation and leave long-winded rants for separate threads.
