MacBook Pro mid 2009 reboots unexpectedly

One Macbook Pro is mid 2009 Intel Core i5 2.5GHz. System reboot unexpectedly. Original thought was battery and hard drive. Hard drive crashed during upgrade to Yosemite. Replace hard drive and battery, clean install of Yosemite. Sort of a new computer, but still the system gets a fault and reboots.

Some Causes:

  • Using Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Using Apple Photo
  • Sometime using FaceTime
  • Sometimes using Firefox

The crash report does not reveal any information as to why it keeps reboot. Some day the rebooting is continuous which makes the system unusable.

What can be done to resolve this issue?

Even though you did a clean install of Yosemite, check for updates just in case. Tthe 10.10.4 update is available.

Click your Apple  menu top left in your screen.

From the drop down menu click: App Store

Then select Updates from the menu top of the App Store window.

Your Mac may restart several times during update process.

Then see if it reboots on it's own.

If there were no updates available, try this support article > OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."
