There is no such thing as an "event folder" - Events and folders have no relation to each other
each import in iPhoto creates a new event
Folders are created from the file menu and do not contain photos - they contain albums or other folders and are used in conjunction with Albums for organizing your photos

A sure way to do what you want is to launch Image Capture and connect her camera to your Mac. Use IC to download her pictures to a folder on the Desktop. Name the folder what you want the Event to be named. Finally, drag that folder into your iPhoto library's open window to import as a new Event with the same name as the folder.
You may want to create a separate iPhoto Library for your daughter.
If you launch iPhoto while holding down the alt/options key you will see the library chooser panel. Click the "Create New" button and enter a name for the new iPhoto Library.
Then connect her iPhone and import the photos to that library.
You can switch back to your own library by selecting your own library from the panel or by double-clicking it in the Finder.
