mackbook pro 2015

Today is July 02, 2015

Running on OSX Yosemite Version 10.10.3 I have a:

- MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

- Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7

- Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

- Startup Disk: Macintosh HD - 1TB - Available still: 159.19Gb

- Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB

- Displays: (1) Built-in: 13.3-inch (1280 x 800) - (2) External Thunderbolt: 27-inch (2560 x 1440)

It is WAY too slow - frustratingly so - when I got it, it was a bullet, now it's a snail...

EVERYTHING just takes FOREVER to load, to open, to process, to receive, to send, blah, blah, blah... the whole day I am waiting for the Spinning Pinwheel or Spinning Wait Cursor to stop...

I think I need a new MacBook Pro... but I don't want to buy it at the WRONG time ... ie right after I buy it, Apple comes out with a better/faster/cooler MacBook Pro...

So, can anyone opine as to whether or not it is a good time to buy a new MacBook Pro? Is it REALLY a NEW 2015 model? Or is something MUCH better just around the corner?

To add to my initial question:

TODAY a New Fully-Loaded MacBook Pro looks like (selecting ALL options as I would):

Summary

- 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display

- 3.1GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.4GHz

- 16GB 1866MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM

- 1TB PCIe-based Flash Storage

- Intel Iris Graphics 6100

- Force Touch trackpad

- Backlit Keyboard (Western Spanish) & User's Guide

And goes for:

USD $2,699 + $162 tax (delivered to FL address) = $2,861

How long should a MacBook Pro last? - not including this last half year, which has already been painfully slow on my MacBook Pro - at this rate I should be expected to buy a new MacBook Pro every 2 years - ie. yearly budget of $1,430 ???

Anyway, going back to my previous question, that's why I am finding it so important to understand WHEN is the correct time to buy...

Thank you OGELTHORPE (level 8)

(1) I pay nearly $90/year for MacKeeper to do its thing and keep my system optimal - I run frequent (as suggested) fast clean-up's)

(2) I have run the check disk utility - verified permission - verified disk - all OK

(3) I have run Apple Diagnostics - all OK

(4) I just downloaded and ran your suggested EntreCheck - these are the only red marks (in bold here):

Also my Time Machine Scheduler has a Backup Interval of 12 hours and configured with a Skip Backup between 8am and 8pm

Could these things be what is making my machine slow?

It is unfortunate that you did not post the entire Etrecheck report. There may be other elements in the report that may be germane to your situation.

Based on what you did post, I suggest that you read this article on Mackeeper:

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3691

http://www.macworld.com/article/2861435/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-from-your-mac .html

A search of these forums and the Internet may provide additional reasons why it does not need to be installed on a MBP.

Mackeeper is probably a contributing cause to your problems.

Ciao.

Dear OGELTHORPE (level 8)

I got rid of MacKeeper as indicated - Thank You

Do you suggest to simply do no cache or other file "clean ups" from now on?

Or is there a Mac maintenance software I should be running once in a while?

Also MacKeeper had an Ant Virus - is this not needed?

Maybe these are just remnants of my old Windows culture?

I ran the EntreCheck a second time - I attach the whole EntreCheck report as you wished:

I ran the EntreCheck a second time - I attach the whole EntreCheck report as you wished:

The Etrecheck report shows that there are elements of Mackeeper still resident in your MBP. These should be eliminated.

Deleted caches have to be rebuilt, so that is a pointless exercise.

There is NO Mac maintenance software that has any value. Dismiss that idea.

Macs do not need any anti virus at this time. Malware is the prime threat. Please refer to this web site for preventive strategies and precautions:

http://www.thesafemac.com/

The Etrecheck report shows that iAntivirus is installed. Go to the developers website and find the appropriate un-installation instructions.

Ciao.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

I uninstalled MacKeeper as per provided link

http://www.macworld.com/article/2861435/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-from-your-mac .html

Finishing successfully with:

Although the window tells you that all MacKeeper-related processes will be deleted, one crumb remains.... A MacKeeper Helper folder isn’t removed. You can find it by visiting this location: youruserfolder/Library/Application Support. ... Inside this folder is a NoticeEngine.plugin file. Go ahead and toss the MacKeeper Helper folder and this file will disappear right along with it. Empty the trash, restart your Mac, and MacKeeper will be gone.

As instructed I looked up uninstalling iAntivirus and found that I had uninstalled (a long time ago) this app in the correct manner:

Welcome to the Norton Community,

To uninstall the iAntivirus, its just the normal way to remove an app from the Mac. By going through the Applications --> Select the iAntivirus and move to trash (or) You can go through the launchpad and hold the iAntivirus, where it will jiggling it. You can remove the iAntivirus.

- - - - -

I have searched in Finder for:

  • MacKeeper
  • zeobit
  • Antivirus
  • iAntivirus

and got NO results

- - - - -

I also searched for

.plist

And of the search results exposed - these did NOT appear:

  • com.zeobit.MacKeeper.AntiVirus.plist
  • com.zeobit.MacKeeper.plugin.AntiTheft.daemon.plist

- - - - -

What do you suggest would be my next step?
