i keep trying to backip my old iPhone 6+ so that everything will be restored on my new one but it won't let me back it up. I really just want my messages. coukd the problem be that the SIM card is out if the old phone and is now in the new one?

What happens when you try to back it up?
It will attempt to backup but then will quit. It will say the last backup could not be completed.
Can I transfer my old messages from one iPhone to another without the SIM card being in my old phone
