'Shuffle All Songs' feature gone on iOS 8.4

So I just updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.4. The 'shuffle all songs' feature is gone! So if you're like me, I work hard at organizing my music each time I add a new CD or purchase on iTunes. I go to 'options' on each song and check or leave blank 'skip when shuffling' option based on what songs I want to hear when I shuffle all of my music. I have over 3500 songs on my iPhone, but shuffle a little over 1000.

So how do I shuffle all of my music? Thanks to the trusty internet, I found two ways:

1. Select a song, play it, and make sure the shuffle icon at the bottom of the screen is selected. The problem here is I really don't want to have to sort through 3500 songs to find a starting point. I really like the randomness of letting my phone select the first played song.

2. Tell Siri to 'shuffle my songs.' Guess I'll have to go with this method since the option to shuffle my music manually is gone. 😢

Here's to hoping that Apple will take notice that being able to manually start a shuffle session is important to users.

Ok, now that I've used it for a bit I have a question:

Each song I have in iTunes I have gone to 'get info' and selected 'options'. I've checked the box 'skip when shuffling' on the songs that I don't want to hear when I shuffle my music (as described above). Those songs play regardless if I have the box checked or not. Why is this happening? Did Apple disable the 'skip when shuffling' option? VERY disappointed. Having this feature is the MAIN reason I like using iTunes via my iPhone 6. Without it, I'm reduced to going through my entire 3500+ song library and build a playlist if I want to keep using my iPhone. That is not a viable option.

Any help or direction is appreciated.

Please let me know if you run into any of the issues I mentioned, because I feel like no one is complaining about this, yet it needs to be mentioned: Apple messed up the shuffle feature from the very foundation. Even if you can find out how to shuffle from all songs, it won't shuffle through all of them.

I got so irritated last night, only after having gone through maybe 4 or 5 hours of a shuffle of my library on my iPhone, I started hearing the same songs I had heard earlier, and it gradually got worse, repeating songs that were played a mere 5-10 songs ago. It is horrible, and no matter which way I tell it to shuffle, it still manages to end up doing this. It is NOT shuffling through all of my songs. It must be choosing a select number of songs to shuffle through... But even then, wouldn't it stop when it got through those? It doesn't... It just starts repeating, and the repeating becomes even worse the further I try to listen (repeating the same songs not just once, but multiple times).

Hello everyone. Just wanted to first thank crazyperson and fireman535 for the info. I was having issues too. I posted my issue in another discussion board about the album artwork removed after iOS 8.4 update and this is the first discussion where I see I'm not the only one missing the easy smooth "shuffle all songs" feature and the _of_ feature. I pray that all this comes back in iOS 9. As far as shuffle and the repeat of songs, so far (knock on wood) I haven't had that issue. I have over 1500 songs and the _of_ feature helped me to keep track of my shuffle cause I too would stop and pick up where I left off in my shuffle the next day. I'm like most of you who are very particular about what I put on my iPod. I'm very versatile and like a variety while listening to my iPod. It's annoying to pick a song as a starting point😠

I don't know if while fixing my album art had something to do with shuffling but if it helps those who are experiencing the repeat of songs before going thru entire library I will share what I did. First: I don't have iTunes Match or Apple Music. I saw many complain about a mix up with album art in iTunes Match and iCloud and just didn't want the headache. As far as Apple Music I already have SiriusXMRadio I don't need another subscription. Second: I saw in one of the discussions steps to disable "show apple music". I disabled that feature on both my iPod and on my pc in iTunes. Third: I like to keep somethings simple so I didn't want to have a whole bunch of playlists. And I didn't want to create, delete, and add back my music. (yes I saw this workaround when looking for a SIMPLE fix for album artwork). So all I did was delete all my music off my iPod and synced it to my iTunes. Most of my album art issues were fixed. Now some I had to fix (about 50 but that's not bad out of 1528 songs lol) and it was simple . I deleted a song hit sync and album art was correct. I also realize that sometimes when syncing large files things get skipped along the way because it's a LARGE file. Computers aren't perfect lol.

Anyway I've been doing my own research with the "shuffle all music" and so far for the past 3 days I haven't heard anything repeat, YET lol. I don't mind listening to songs over and over but that's why we love shuffle for the variety so I feel your pain in the nuisance of "**** I just heard that!" (That's why I stopped listening to regular radio and went satellite ) Ok sorry I'm babbling I digress lol.

I don't know if this will help but hey crazy things in this world we can't explain seem to be a fix. Let's just say our devices can be temperamental😁

I think I can one up your issue. I have always been fond of shuffling a genre while I work on a project, most often it happens to be my soundtrack genre. In passed iOS versions I could just open the genre and there would be the shuffle symbol or a tab saying to 'shuffle all songs'. Recently I discovered that to do the same thing in iOS 8 I had to tap on the image or grey square that was next to the genre title. Where in the tutorial to iOS 8 music app does it say to tap on that to shuffle a genre. That is backwards logic, fixing something that isn't broken. When did that become the staple of how we progress through technological updates? This 'Apple Logic' has been plaguing us ever since the side bar was going to be removed from iTunes.

The million dollar question is does selecting "Shuffle All" shuffle through all of the library, or does it only shuffle from the entire library?

I honestly couldn't care less if it the option is easily available again if it still doesn't shuffle through my whole library before repeating. I know how to easily get it to shuffle from all of my library now, just not through it.

IT would be nice to have shuffle back in all music folders, artist, genre, songs(your million dollar question), and so on. It's stupid of Apple to remove it except for album or playlist and not keep it for the rest. Irritated they don't even touch or conversate the fact it's gone or a problem on their side. You would think they would highlight that as being a bug and they'll have a fix. :/

Is this feature available everywhere in music? Like for example I would like to shuffle through the genre folder of Rap. Is this option there to do so like it used to be? Thanks!

It is available for All Songs (in your Library), for individual Playlists and individual Artists. Not for Genres.

I haven't had the time to be selective about which songs should be included in my shuffle. I was just happy to hit 'shuffle all' and let the universe decide what music on my list I would hear. I have thousands of songs I love. It appears to be the case now, that 'shuffle all' isn't an option. I have to create a select list to shuffle my library. Which to me seems like a strong nudge from Apple toward the Apple Radio option. I'm not happy.
