iOS 8.4 Audiobooks Issues

Book Chapter Titles aren't visible. I download my books from CDs, and not only do I have to hunt through all of them to find out where I'm at, they also jump around when I've selected them!! Talk about frustrating. If they'd just stay in the same place I could figure out where I'm at. Then they don't record which sub chapters have been listened to so you have to hunt around there too. Definitely a non reader/listener that worked on this software. Youd think they'd keep the same format as in I tunes, if not improve on it.

This was driving me insane! I just went into iTunes, went to my audiobooks, clicked on get info and changed them all for audiobook to music. Now they play in iTunes on my phone and it remembers where I left off. Just like the good old days.

When you add the fact that iBooks can't even read the books it used to (ePub), and that the phone always choose Apple Music as the audio program (no matter what I was listening to), it seems that Apple only wants us to listen to music and read books that are under their control. My iPhone has become a hindrance instead of a help.

Nobody is listening. They haven't been for quite some time.

Hm, I use iBooks to read my uncopyprotected epubs all the time, Russell. That's something that works perfectly for me. I wonder why it's not working for you. I hope you can get it to work.

I've been so frustrated with Apple splitting music, audiobooks and podcasts into the three apps, but in another thread someone suggested the app SpeedUp and it's solved all my problems. It's a bit fiddly, but I can now play all three media kinds in the one playlist again the way I used to be able to! Audiobooks have been working well in it.

Update on that - it doesn't seem to play rights-protected files such as Audible files : (

I'm so excited! I just figured it out for my iphone 3g. Right click on the book you purchased and go to GET INFO. Inside GET INFO click on OPTIONS. Under OPTIONS choose to put the book under something different. The choices it gave me was music, itunes U, and ect. I put my books under music. They synced to my phone. Yay! I can now let my kids listen to the books in the car. I'm VERY upset at apple for wanting to charge me for helping me with this purchase problem. That needs to be done away with. That's not very good customer support.

Help for audiobook aficionados, iBooks and iOS 8.04. For those of you using Audiobook Builder to rip CDs or digital files, the software creator - Splasm software is very aware of the issues, and is working with Apple to resolve them. You can follow the discussions on their forum support page:

The same issue that is causing a problem for Audiobook Builder users is more than likely a similar issue for all of you out there having the same problems, so it is worth checking in to see their take on the cause, and what Apple is doing to resolve it. The culprit (at the moment) appears to be the way images are assigned to audiobooks and how that is handled (or mishandled) by iOS 8.04 and iBooks.

Thank you so much, Jody! I followed Splasm's recommendation to rebuild my audiobook without chapter art, and this indeed did the trick! While I still wish we could have chapter names in iBooks and could scrub through a single chapter at a time, at least it is remembering my playback position. What a relief.

Following Apple's recommendation I tested this problem in IOS 9 beta 2 and it is fixed mostly. Just some Siri issues needing fixing. IOS 9 beta 2 is cool and has been very usable by the way if you want to use that as a workaround for this problem.

I too cannot stand the new format. I don't like them grouping multiple "books" in the one file with endless Track numbers, and it doesn't remember where you last listened, and you can't seem to "fast forward" through the track to get to your spot (the time slide bar & the +15 don't work). So basically its pointless and I cannot continue to use Audiobooks until it is back to the previous format. I also used to enjoy listening to an Audiobook and also following along with & marking up the ePub version (for studying purposes). You can no longer do these things together. I have to use 2 devices now for something that just one device has always been able to do. I AM SOOOOO UPSET about this change, as I really enjoyed listening to my Audiobooks.

I Had not even thought about listening & reading the books at the same time. I do this all the time for school. I think I'm doomed. Thanks Apple for ruining this for me.
