iOS 8.4 Audiobooks Issues

I love enjoying an audiobook during long work days or car journeys and ordinarily I would use my iPhone to listen to them but since upgrading to iOS 8.4 I've encountered some serious issues with the new audiobook format.

Firstly, although I appreciate them grouping multiple audiobook files into one place and listing the chapters now, I really wish that I could see the actual chapter titles! This maybe wouldn't be as big an issue for me if it weren't for my major problem which is the fact that every time I open iBooks and load up my audiobook it's managed to lose my place and be somewhere random in the story (not so pleasant when it's a 50+ chaptered ASOIAF book). The last think I've also noticed is how the time bar never moves and stays at 0:00 when playing which would make navigating each chapter extremely difficult if the new fast forward controls actually worked.

All in all, there are some serious fundamental bugs in this new iBooks app that quickly need addressed. Very disappointing!

Yes, I've had all the same issues as everyone else too. But also, I don't understand why Apple has taken both podcasts and audiobooks out of the main app and banished them to separate apps. They're all together and accessible in iTunes. I want to be able to make up a playlist with all three mixed in together (as I used to be able to do a few years ago. And have been doing up until 8.4 by converting podcasts to audiobooks). I''m going to have to try and look for a third party app now. Apple has basically made it impossible for me to use iTunes on my iPhone. So so disappointing.

So I figured one thing out. I finally gave up with all the issues I was having and restored my phone as a new phone. After putting my audio books back I figured out that the scrubbing and navigation problems are only present when you are playing something other than the first chapter of the book. If I am on the first chapter it works. I'm going to go report the bug to apple.

I want the old music app back too. I need easy navigation for use when I am driving etc. I don't need fancy cluttered interfaces. Apple needs to stop being a copy cat of Android's cluttered but fancy looking interfaces and go back to their roots of usability and quality!

This upgrade has been very disappointing. I use Audiobook Builder to rip CDs from the library which are correctly identified as Audiobooks and brought into iTunes. I don't mind iBooks being used for books and audiobooks, the overall notion makes sense, however the functionality has been broken. The skip forward and backward arrows don't work at all, even though I set them to 15 seconds in the iPhone Settings/iBooks. The forward arrow doesn't work at all, and the backward arrow jumps tracks... randomly. The scrubbing bar is AWFUL!! First you can't see it to control it. It is hard to grab at the edge of your phone, and even harder to know at what point to stop, since there is no indication of where you are, or where you are trying to go.

Worst of all is that you lose your position EVERY TIME you stop listening and move to another app, It doesn't remember where you were at all. Very unusable, unfriendly and not what I expect from Apple.

Same problem as everyone.

TEMPORARY CRAPPY SOLUTION: The Audible app plays back books stored in your device, and it will remember the track's position. HOWEVER, the 8.4 update also screwed up the Audible app and added some serious glitches. It works great from the app, but if you use it in control center and not with the phone unlocked and app open, it lowers your volume a lot (and you can't raise it), it sets playback to 1x (if you where playing at 1.5x or something, you have to open the app and hit play there again) and the << and >> arrows skip to the beginning and end of the book. But at least it remembers your position when you are done listening. Also, if you pause and start again (even if for a second), it will lower your volume and set your playback speed back to 1x.

So they even broke the possibility of using other apps. Make your choice: do you want to remember your position in the book? Audible. Do you want to use control center and be able to listen at different speeds? iBooks. Do you want something usable? Go back to 8.3 or wait for update 😟

Sigh ... has there been any movement on the issues of the iBooks app losing your place once you restart? What I'm describing is when I listen for a bit and then say come back an hour later to click on my audiobook ... iBooks starts me off in a completely different part of the book. It's awful. I was using the Audible app, which was great with the addition of the ability to listen to books from ITunes, but in the most recent update of this app, I believe this feature has been removed. When are they going to fix this??!!

99% of time I listen to audiobooks on iphone. I have quite a few books on phone.
-- Starting iBooks takes a while like it is checking the cloud everytime the program opens for new artwork or something.
-- Takes forever to get the book I have been listening to to load - usually I have to choose it. Gone are the days of simply hitting the play button on my headphones which is VERY annoying.

-- Not sure why they got moved as the other system worked -- not sure how the press the headphone button will ever start my ibook audiobook...

I wish I had delayed updating my phone and iTunes.

I have been an apple user for many, many years. I've been an avid iPhone user for the last 6. Yesterday I went to my local phone provider and instead of upgrading to the newest iPhone, I upgraded to a Samsung galaxy. This latest update was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. I love (d) apple, but with functionality being slowly but surely stripped away from everything that isn't music the last 4 years, I'm done holding out hope that these breaks will be fixed. So I hate to say it apple, but I'm breaking up with you, because you are very broken.

I have been converting podcasts to AAC for several years so I could continue adding them to playlists with mixed content in Music. (That's progress!)

Under iOS 8.4 I have also found that Music can no longer remember my track or position in these converted files, so I now take a screen shot at the end of each listening session to avoid hunting for my spot the next time. (More progress!)

WHY.... For God's sakes, WHY?!

Кошмар какой-то. Перенесли в Ibooks аудиокниги, теперь не запоминает программа место, на котором была остановлена аудиокнига. Слушать невозможно, приходится искать на каком моменте остановилась в прошлый раз. Когда исправите?
