my ipod 5 wont turn on

My ipod touch (5th gen) will not respond or turn on. It had about 50% battery life, so the battery did not just run out. My home button broke a couple months ago, so I can not hold down that with the start button. I have tried charging it, with no response. My computer does not see it when I plug it in. This has happened once before, and after a couple days I think it just randomly turned on again when I held down the start/on button. It is only about a year old. Please help!
