Secure websites are not loading Properly and I've been reduced to tears.

I am so frustrated that I am about to chuck my MBP into the pool. I upgraded 2 days ago to OS X 10.10.4 and I am running Safari 8.0.7. I'm at my wits end and hope that someone can help resolve my issues (just the Mac issues.. 😉) before my laptop ends up at the bottom of the pool.

After the upgrade, Safari stopped loading secure webpages. I was shopping and when I went to pay it loaded the contentas shown below. I attempted to fix it with Terminal and I must have gotten carried away with it's mysterious powers as my permissions stopped working and I could no longer get into System Preference. The lock in system preferences stopped working. Several hours and many many command prompts later, I reset all the file privileges ( have no clue if they are set correctly) and went back to work on my original problem and created a new user with admin privileges. I was able to "fix" accessing some files and then I deleted the admin user and after a short time I my found that I could not get online with Safari or Firefox. I looked at my command prompt history but could not tell which command did what. Which bring us to now. My eyes are blurry and after fooling with this for over 7 hours despite my valiant attempt, I admit that I have no idea what I am doing and have likely made things worse. My Applecare just expired and I can't locate the software to reinstall OS X.

I created a new admin user and am able to get online with no problems. I went to ~/Library/Preference/com.apple.Safari.plist and moved it to the desk top as one blogger recommended and I am now able to get online at the moment with my signon ..right back at square one. am. To add insult to injury, I am unsure if once I delete the other admin profile whether my settings may revert and I'll be unable to get online as before.

Any advise how I can get my browsers to load correctly, my file permissions to work, the other admin profile deleted correctly and still be able to use the internet normally? This is what I'm getting when I go to a secure website.

Thanks for you help!!User uploaded file

Deleting the non admin account won't have any effect one way or the other on your Safari settings system wide. Creating a separate account is a good way to determine whether or not the issue is in your user account. In this case that appears to be the case.

Reinstalling OS X rarely fixes any problems with Safari.

I noticed in your screen shot you have the Develop menu enabled.

Go to the Safari menu bar click Develop. If you see any check marks in the Develop drop down menu, click once to remove the checkmark then quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that didn't help, might be a cookies, cache, extensions, or plug-ins issue.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.

Click: Remove All Website Data

Then delete the cache.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that didn't help, from the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

If none of the above helped, a Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help after an OS X upgrade.

Top left corner of your screen click the Apple > Shut Down.

After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.

Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.

Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.

Once you are in Safe Mode, go back to the Apple menu. From the drop down menu click: Restart
