The last iOS update on my iPad caused me to loose over 1,200 songs! i.e. All but six. What do I do?? The PC to which this iPad used to dock is no longer available to reload them. What do I do?...

The music you sync from PC and you do not have a backup, it's gone. iPad is not a storage medium.
Only music purchased from iTunes Store can be transferred back to PC from iPad or re-download to your device/computer iTunes if available.
