Move mail folders from external disk to Mac

My wife macbook Air is nor repairable but we have been able to copy all data from the disk. I have restored nearly everithing except the email archive folders which do not have an account, just archive (.mbox). How can I move those archives from an external disk to the new mac?

I tried copying the files (4 Gb) to the mail library folder where the other working email folders are located, I can see the folders in mail but them appear empty.

Both the old and the new mac are on Yosemite.

Thanks for supporting.

The file on the external disk is 4 Gb.

If I copy it in the user library>Mail<V2 the mail folders are visible in the mail app but they look empty.

I removed the copied .mbox and followed the import method.

The result is that the selected .mbox gets imported but its size on the new MacBook is 0. I tried waiting for a couple of minutes to see if the import was in progress but since the size stays 0 I think that nothing is happening.
