I found a phone. I'd prefer to return it to the owner. They have not called and I can't access information on the phone as it is linked to an apple account and has iOS7 security features. Trash or can owner find it now that I have connected to computer?

If the owner can't take the time to dial their own phone number I am not going to go through the hassel of taking it into a police station (not that I think that would get them their phone back anyway).

If there is some way for the owner to find the phone through the security features I will hold it and see if they get in contact. Otherwise, I have put all the effort into this as I am willing to spend trying to return someones phone...going in the trash.

I don't own a phone and I don't want a phone, so no one will ever find my lost phone. If I WERE careless enough to lose something that was important to me, I would at least attempt to find it myself (which I would think would be easy to do with a phone since you can call the stupid device and ask whoever answers where the h*** it is).

Someone drops a phone at music festival camp ground. Someone else picks it up and asks if anyone around dropped it...then hands it to me and says see if someone calls to get it back. I carry it around the music festival for the next 24 hours waiting to see if the owner will call to claim it...it never rings.

If I truly believed that the police would take the time to track down the owner of a lost phone I probably would go the extra mile to help out...somehow I think it would just end up in the trash there too...or maybe filed away in some storage area with tons of other crap people have been too careless to hold onto over the years.

One good thing...I now know that Mauritius is a country!

I appreciate the advice...I attempted to use Siri as you suggested, but nothing happened.

However, just the fact that someone else (who has no stake in this stupid device) has taken the time to attempt to provide a useful suggestion inspires me...I'll hold on to the phone for a bit, no trashing in the immediate future. If I find myself in a situation convenient for handing it off to someone of authority I will make it a point to do so.

In the mean time, if anyone has a suggestion for how I can notify the owner of the phone's location without just dumping it off in some overburdened police station and using tax payer's money in futile effort to "do the right thing," please let me know.

If I was concerned about the legality of picking up a lost item off the ground with intentions of returning it to the owner, I never would have agreed to take it in the first place.

As I mentioned early on...I don't have a phone and I don't want a phone, so being able to use it for myself is not something I have any interest in. I despise cell phones and the effect they have had on society and I wouldn't accept one for my own personal use if someone begged me to take it.

I have heard your opinion and I appreciate you voicing it. If I decide to make the effort to turn the phone in, it will be more due to anypats attempts to help than your criticism of me.

Thanks anyway.

I believe my technical question was if there was a way for me to find information on the phone to help return it...something anypats attempted to help me do.

I think it became non-technical in nature when you were the first person to chime in with a non-technical opinion of what should be done.

I do appreciate your comments...I am sure you have provided helpful information for hundreds of people, but it sounds like we agree that you don't have a technical solution to help me and there is no reason for us to continue this discussion.

Thanks.
