How do I get an album to play in album order? My iPhone is only playing albums on shuffle.

I think i have the solution. Had same problem - didnt recall ever pressing shuffle, but could not keep songs from playing out of order.

Here's the trick i found: if you look at the first image below on the left with the smaller album cover art, you have an album view from the iphone using Music. THE SHUFFLE ICON ON THIS SCREEN DOES NOT TURN OFF SHUFFLE. If you press it, it just shuffles again. The trick that worked for me was to select the individual song in the tiny bar at the bottom. Pressing it would bring up the second screen, where the album cover is much bigger. It's on this SECOND screen that the shuffle icon can be toggled to automatically shuffle or not. If the icon at bottom is SHADED, then it is set to automatically shuffle, and will always do so. You need to turn it off from here. Worked for me at least - hope this helps.

I agree. I can't find a method to play an album in the order that it was meant to be played, e.g., Track 1 first, followed by Track 2, etc. On my iPad 2 the tracks play in alphabetical order. At least I found out how to turn off shuffle and repeat.

This is insane! Why would "Shuffle" be on by default? (And why do I have to de-select it at song-level?)

HEY APPLE!! If I choose to play an album, it's because I want to hear that album! That album should play in its original order, unless I ask it to do otherwise! Geesh.

This is driving me crazy. I'm a music director for a play, and I'd really like to listen to the songs from the show in order, but I can see no way to make that happen, unless I make a "play next, play next, play next..." list. That's not what I want, I want to be able to press "Play" and have the album play the tracks in order.

Not to mention an album like Abbey Road, the medley from side two tends to sound off when it's played randomly.

Also, you can no longer "scrub" through a song, which makes going back and listening to a section of a song over again almost impossible. You can scrub from your phone's lock screen, but I'd like to be able to do it in the Music app.

Apple really needs to work on this, but I know they're far too interested right now in selling you their streaming music service than allowing people with an already existing music collection to be able to listen to it without difficulty.

The iTunes version that is a part iOS 10.1.1 -- you need to scroll down a bit further on the second screen. It's there but hidden. (Shouldn't be this hard, Apple. Quit muckin' around with the user interface. You didn't make it "better." You made it *different* and slightly dysfunctional.)

You need to have your play list sorted by albums in iTunes be for importing to you device.

For the newer version of Apple Music, on the second screen where only the current playing song is showing, you can scroll down from the middle of the screen and see the whole album. If it doesn't appear in order, hit the shuffle button so it's not shaded. Seems like Apple did the best job of hiding their shuffle button... oh well

Update for IOS 10, thanks to another guide on using the music player.

"Apple didn’t remove the shuffle button from the Now Playing interface. They simply hid it where few would think to look based on past versions of iOS. To find the shuffle button in the iOS 10 Music app, you need to swipe up on the Now Playing screen."

My daughter and I dusted off an old iPod Touch, and longed for the simplicity of that music playing interface.

I found it!

Tap on the song title at the bottom of the screen and all the old controls pop up, including shuffle/don't shuffle and the scrubbing bar.

1. Select a single song in your album @ the bottom of the song, you will see the Airplay icon and and 3 dots
2. Slide your screen down

you will see the "Shuffle" and "Repeat" buttons

avu123 you got it right. This should be a single toggle that either orders originally or shuffles randomly.But I followed your instructions and can now control the order.

the answers in this thread no longer work, since they redesigned iTunes. I have no idea how to make albums play in order. Pathetic, Apple.

I'm disliking Apple's design decisions more and more every day. Why would shuffle and repeat for the Album be on the Song view?

Not intuitive at all, and I can't even get that panel to show up or get it to work. I'm giving a one-star rating to this lousy interface.
