Download Stuck in "Paused" Status
Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)
HI There
You can go the launchpad. Left click and hold until the icon start to shake with delete marks on the left top appearing. Delete that paused download. GO back to your purchases item in apple store. You can down download it again. Thanks
Another possible solution (for others out there):
Go to your App Store/ Store/ View incomplete downloads. It's going to say that you have all downloads completed, click OK. Then go to your Purchased bar again, and you should see that the download of the software has reiniciated (if not, click the pause button to iniciate). It should work... good luck!
This helped me! I just want to clarify to other the exact instructions
I have a similar problem. I downloaded the installer and it appears to be corrupt since I cannot make a USB installer from it...it just errors with "Could not mount image". I made a backup of what I downloaded and deleted it from my Applications folder thinking that would let me download it again from purchases but nope. The button is greyed out and says DOWNLOADED. Any thoughts to how I can re-download the file?
Same issue, I already removed it from Launchpad, went to Purchases, but is not downloading the beta, the current status is "Waiting" and it is not changing. I have had the issue many times and never has been solved. So sad {>_<}.
The thing that worked for me is Pascall88's solution: Open appstore, open 'store' (on the top of your screen once app store is opened) and click 'search for incomplete downloads' (or something similar, my macbook is set to another language so I translated it myself). After this, the download should start over automatically.
thank you, this did the trick for me 🙂

FYI the trick is to click and hold on the actual "El Capitan "X" paused" icon; that is, you don't click and hold on the Launchpad icon itself. Go into Launchpad, then click and hold on the paused download icon. Then after the app icons begin to shake and each one gets an "x" in the upper left corner, click on the little 'x' on the paused download icon. Say yes when it asks if you want to delete. HTH.
In 'El Capitan' it is called 'Check for Unfinished Downloads...'.
It indeed told me all downloads were completed, but at the same time the status of the hanging download in the 'Purchased' tab changed from 'Waiting' to a progress bar, and the download actually started.
Thanks a bunch! I would never have thought to try that...
I've had this problem as well. The only solution that was effective was to activate the debug menu for the App Store in order to find and then delete the partially downloaded update file. Here are the details :

try looking in the purchases section.
Found it in "Purchases" but now we're "waiting"
Thanks ymche23 😎
I lost my redemption code. Says it was already used. Anyway to re-download the public beta?
If you have not already done so, plug in your powercable.
