Lost playlists, Albums, Songs etc on Music app in iOS 8.4

I have just updated my iPad to iOS 8.4. I've set up the new Music app but I seem to have lost all my playlists, songs, albums etc. The only things showing are 'Recently Added' and 'Purchased Music which amount to the same thing. Where is the rest of my music and where are my playlists? I will certainly not be amused if they have all disappeared! I'd be grateful for any help you can give me.

Hey Jacqui,

Have these playlist and such ever lived on iTunes in the past or purely curated on your iPad?

If its the first then you should be ok... it will sync with the new iCloud Sync... if its only from your iPad then never synced with iTunes via cable then it is likely gone.... depends how 'connected to iTunes' you were in the past... sorry if im the source of your bemusement!!

EDIT: Sorry i should mention that if you are not signed into iTunes on your PC/Mac then you may not see your iPad Curation!...

HI Keywal

Thanks for answering so quickly. I have always built my playlists on my PC in iTunes and synced to my iPad (and iPhone) with a cable. However, I can't see that Music is synced with the iCloud. Where would it tell me if this is being done or not? If the music is in the iCloud will it automatically download into the Music app or would I have to sync through iTunes on my PC? I'd like to understand what I'm doing and and what to do if things go the same way before I update my iPhone.

Thanks for for your help.

Once iTunes and your iPad are fully updated the process is automatic as far as activation goes (once you confirm that is)

The Cloud is only keeping a database of what you have and when you listened to it.

if you want to be able to listen to the stuff on your iPad away from WiFi you need to make the songs/playlists available off line.(press the 3 dots to the right of the song/playlist and press Make Available Offline)

It will download the files you want and you can take away with you.

Hello again!

Well there's good news and bad news. The good news is I got all my music to show in the Music app and have successfully sorted which songs I want to make available offline. However the bad news is that I can't see any of my playlists. I've tried all sorts of ways suggested by others on this forum but nothing works and I understand that this is a huge problem. Do you have any ideas which might work? I cannot understand how Apple can release these updates when are clearly not fit for purpose. Thanks for your time

Well I've gone into the iTunes Store and it does seem that I would have to subscribe to iTunes Match. I can't afford to have this feature and I'm now getting to the end of my tether with this new Music app. Has anyone else succeeded in solving this problem or will we have to wait for the next update when Apple realises they've cocked up big time?! It's no wonder that the take up of the update is so small. I, for one, will be making doubly sure that there's nothing new to make a mess of my settings. Anyway, onwards and upwards.....I hope!

This was driving me crazy too. Had signed out of my Music account and signed back in to try to resolve some syncing issues and my playlists disappeared. I finally figured out that under settings/Music the iCloud Music Library toggle defaulted to off when i signed back in. When i toggled it back on all my playlists came back. May be a different problem all around but it fixed my issue.
