MacCare MacCleaning pop up window

I am running OS 10.10.4 on a iMac 21.5 late 2012

Suddenly, that is today, a window MacMcare/MacCleaning window opens on my desktop soon after startup.

I have run AdwareMedic which found nothing and have run through the other steps as outlined in AdwareMedic “Other Steps”.

Can anyone suggest what further steps I should take?

I think it occurs after I open Safari but not immediately maybe a few minutes after and not associated with any site (unless Google which I usually use first).

The window leads to maccaresoft a site which is not particularly helpful. However, I imagine MAcCare is a form of rip off ware and not anything I wish to have anything to do with.

I have AdBlock and Disconnect on Safari and AdBlock Plus and NoScript on Firefox. Also ClamXav is installed.

I have just discovered that I have Shockwave Flash 18.0.0.203 which updated on 9 July 2015. Could this be the cause? Although I tend not to open Firefox until after the MacCare window has opened.

you said:

I agree it has nothing to do with has nothing to do with "Rapport" or the WD software which have been on the machine for some years. (Rapport might not be very good at anything but a few web sites require it.)

That is correct. But still they are crap, Trusteer is not required at any site. It is opening holes instead of giving security, whatever some stupid bankmanager says.

Thank you all in particular Linc Davis and etresoft for all your help.

It does appear that it is Magician which was the cause of the evil deed. Although Magician has been around on my computer for a couple of years has decided to go to the dark side. I see that the programme was bad back in 2011 so it is surprising it took this long to manifest its corrupt intentions.
