Backup of Notes from the Notes Application
Are notes from the notes app backed up by time machine? If so, how are they retrieved? Also, can they be manually backed up on a cd or usb drive?
Thank you.

Thanks. This is what they say. It's ridiculously time consuming. So does anyone know another way, or if the Notes are backed up on Time Machine.
Notes
To copy notes, open the Notes app at iCloud.com. Copy the text of each note and paste it into a document on your computer, such as a Pages or TextEdit document. Save the document to your computer.
Notes are in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes
In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library.
If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Utilities/Terminal.
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
thanks! that worked. it's reassuring to know that notes are saved in my time machine and can be restored. I do a lot of writing in the notes app, and someone told me some of the stuff that syncs through iCloud is not included in time machine backups, even though I see it on my computer. Do you know if this is true for other things besides notes? Or was the person just wrong entirely?
Thanks again!
p.s. I wish I had known this when I accidentally deleted a story I was writing in the notes app, and was told by apple support there was no way to retrieve it.
Hi Eric,
In time machine, I don't have "go" (the top menu doesn't show). Can I access this from time machine or do I need to copy it manually on another hard drive or disc?
thanks!
Try using the Terminal command (above) to make your user Library permanently visible and then enter Time Machine.
Hi Eric,
Probably a newbie question, but I haven't used Terminal before, so just want to check, do I just type in the command and press enter?
Thank you very much.
Carla
You are welcome. The best thing to do is copy and paste the command into Terminal. Then hit return.
You are welcome. As far as I know, if it is on your computer, Time Machine will back it up. There are a few exceptions such as the trash.
