You should be able to...maps has pretty good coverage over large segments of the world.

Thank you. I'm new to this-----what do you need in the way of a connection for the maps (navigation) to work. Do you need wifi, a phone connection or does the iphone just use its internal gps.
With an iPhone 5s you should be able to read the GPS satellite, but if you are able to use cellular service, that will improve the coverage by triangulating between cell towers.
Last month while in Ireland I was able to rent a car with WiFi and the iPad and iPhone maps worked fantastic.
