Cannot Decode Video

I'm using an iPad Air 2 with iOS 8.4

I connected my iPad to the iTunes on my Macbook, and I uploaded a video to watch on the iPad. When I opened 'Videos' app on the iPad, I clicked on the video and got this error message:

"Cannot Decode

The media data could not be decoded on this device"

The specs of the video are:

Dimensions: 704x400

Size: 146 MB

Codecs: H.264, AAC

I tried using Quicktime Player on my Macbook to try and convert the video to 720p, but it still gave the same error (although I'm pretty sure my video is 480p since it actually says it on the name of the video). I also tried downloading several third party apps on the iPad to try and play the video on them, but none of them worked.

What can I do? I read so many threads but none of the solutions there seemed to work for me 😟

This file is already in iTunes?

In iTunes, 'File Menu > Create new version… Create iPod or iPhone version'. When it completes try adding that to the device (possibly edit the metadata so you know it is the converted file).

If it fails to convert it may have DRM, otherwise an app like handbrake may convert it too…

If it fails to help it would be helpful to us to know what steps you have taken already and more info about the file (Quicktime or iTunes have the 'Get info' panes).

Have you tried Mpegstreamclip? If that won't play it then it's possible that it's corrupt

Usually, to get a video onto your iPad, you add it to the iTunes library. iTunes should decode/reencode the video.
