AppleCare+ and dealing with a cracked screen

I dropped my iPhone 6 and the screen cracked. I went to the apple store and they told me that my iPhone is "bent". This meant that i could not have my iPhone repaired it had to be replaced. I have Applecare+ so the fee for replacement is 79$ (or something around there). I seemed to remember having my previous iPhone (5) repaired multiple times because of software issues and such that made it malfunction but i didn't expect to pay for a replacement especially since i have insurance. My question is why is it my fault that my phone is bent? I never mistreated or did anything to make it bend (other than the incident when it cracked) and as Apple said "accidents happen", to me the bending sounds like a faulty manufacturing issue on Apple's part. Why would they make a bendable iPhone and then i am blamed for it bending? What i mean to address is that i am a loyal paying customer who thought applecare would help me if anything was to happen to my iPhone yet i have to pay a near hundred dollar fee to replace it. What purpose did it serve to buy 99$ applecare+ if if my phone were to break i would still have to pay 79$ to repair it or rather replace it. I never bent my iPhone. I paid 99$ so that if it broke i could get a new one. Yet here i am with only one choice and that is to pay for a replacement. I feel severely cheated. Is there anyway around this?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.4

The phone being bent has nothing to do with what you were charged. You dropped the phone and broke the screen. That is user damage, not a manufacturer defect. You would have had to pay the $79 whether the phone was bent or not. Because you had AppleCare, instead of having to pay $129 the usual cost for a screen replacement or $269 to replace a damaged phone, you only had to pay $79.

I Geuss i was just confused because of my previous replacments On my iphone 5 which were internal defects such as the the phone turning on and off again for hours And the battery being extremely unreliable (Dying within 2 hours of Being chargered) were replaced for free.

Those were deemed to be manufacturer defects and were covered under warranty. Damage is not a manufacturer defect.

just to clear one last thing up, a screen repair and and an iphone replacement would be the same price for applcare+ customer

If you have AppleCare+, and you damage your phone, you get two incidences of repair/replacement at a reduced cost ($79).

In all of your rambling, you mention the Apple Care plus deductible. That is correct. What is your issue then? Did they not offer to replace your device for the $79 fee? Are they asking for more? The cost to replace the screen on the iPhone 6 is $109. Apple Care plus does not allow a free replacement. You never state what occurred, or what the outcome was.

Sorry to hear that happened.

Theres not much advice I can give you about this because I'm just a fellow community member.

How did you iPhone crack?

I think this is unfair because Apple doesn't really "repair" your phone. They just give you a brand new one and load all of your old data on it.

My advice is for you to go to the Apple Store and tell them since you have applecare+ that cracked screens are covered and ask if they can give you a new one.

Best of luck,

Zack 🙂

My previous replacements made led me to believe that i wouldnt have to pay for repairs. Now i can see that is totally not that case with a cracked screen. just to clear one last thing up, a screen repair and and an iphone replacement would be the same price for applcare+ customer
