This is something I've never seen before. I get a popup window with the following: Success What is this?
I keep getting the following message in a pop-up window.
<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Success</TITLE></HEAD><BODY>Success</BODY></HTML>

I've found this extremely annoying popup appeared 4 hours ago. Internet connectivity is lost whilst the popup is open so could be malware successfully disrupting network communication or a mistake in the server response from the url. I haven't got the tools on iMac to be able to tell the difference. However, a full scan of McAffe LiveSafe 2015 has not found anything. I'm using Mavericks which exhibits the problem but noticed on an Airbook that Yosemite uses a different url which works OK. It might be that 'valid' HTML is returned from one url but not the other. For example the characters '<' and '>' may actually be decoded from < and > and the OSX process in the older system cannot cope with this. It has been noticed that Android devices also use the Apple test page to check wi fi connectivity!

This is exactly what has happened. It's what you get when someone pastes the code for a web page into a web page creation program as if it was content, instead of pasting it in a code editor. If the code was correct you would simply see the word 'Success' though whether this in itself accounts for the annoying appearance of the page - which shouldn't be appearing at all - I can't say. Possibly it's looking for 'Success' as the first text of the page and of course not seeing it. I don't see the page on my Android device (5.1.1).
i tried turning OFF auto login and worked for me! wifi on again
Same issue here with Mavericks 10.9.5 on a MacBook Pro. Restarting didn't fix it. Wi-fi is working OK while this is going on. Annoying but it doesn't seem to be causing any other problems with me.
Turning off auto connect at the network settings seems to solve this problem.
Here same thing..
But something weird.. i have two macbook pro one late 2011 and one 2007.. both running os x 10.9.5
The 2011 macbook has this problem and in network preference i can see " Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address 192.x.x.x and will not be able to connect to the Internet. " but it does connect to the internet and it does get the ip from dhcp server
The 2007 macbook does not have this problem at all....
Both MacBooks had updates yesterday.. iTunes, safari and a security update... these updates where the same for both laptops..
Only difference the macbook 2011 had also an EFI update....
Hope this info helps a little...
The problem of the 'Success' pop-up with the HTML code displaying was caused by an error at Apple's end which appears to have been corrected. You should find your Macs behave correctly now.
Indeed the popup dispaired.. but my network status is still as " self-assigned IP address "
So don't think all problems are solved for now ..
If it really has a self-assigned address it's not getting the IP from the router. On the other hand if it's connecting to the internet it hasn't got a self-assigned address. It sounds as if it's confused. If it's actually working I shouldn't worry about it - you could try a reboot, though.
Hi Roger and thank you for your reply...
It does get the ip from the dhcp server here..and is normal ip my laptop normally gets.. as i assign all my devices here in the router...
Reboot did not help.. my net does work.. i made a location "home" and put static values here......
Still i think something is wrong.. but time will learn... 😝
I too am getting the same popup window about every few minutes. It started for me after I had completed the recent updates of the last day or so. At least I know based on the other posts that others are having the same problem so that it's not just my problem. I'm not having trouble accessing my home WiFi, but the popup window is getting annoying.
This issue has been caused by an updated response from Apple's test site for internet connection and is resolved by now.
iOS and also OS X try to contact http://www.apple.com/library/test/success.html when connecting to a WLAN to test for internet connection.
The normal response is a simple "Success" which indicates a working internet connection.
About 1 day ago the response changed to "<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Success</TITLE></HEAD><BODY>Success</BODY></HTML>" which is interpreted as failing internet connection by some OS Versions.
WIFI connection should be working fine now again without any modifications.
This is likewise my configuration : a MacBook Pro and 10.9.5.
I also have an Android phone but an IPad mini which doesn't seem to have an issue.
