My serial number isnt recognised

I am trying to contact Apple which apparently is harder than getting thru to God! I cant get a phone number and when I try it asks me to enter my serial number which is on the back of my ipod touch. I put it in exactly, no errors and it continuously says serial number is invaild please try again. How do you actually call anyone to get help- I need to reset my ipod and am getting the error code (1) and cant restore it.

That error is almost always a hardware problem but try:

ERROR (1)

- Place the iPod in DFU mode and then restore

- Try on another computer

- Try another cable

- Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.

- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If yo call Apple and yo are not in your free telephone support period (90 days) Apple charges for such support
