Music app very slow to load local music

hi! so, I upgraded to iOS 8.4 on my iPhone 6 and when I set up the music app I did not join Apple music. I turned off the connect feature and just want to listen to the music i already have on my phone. since the upgrade, when I open the music app it takes a really long time for my library to appear. the screen within the app is blank and my wifi signal shows the loading spinning wheel thingy like it's trying to connect somewhere. iCloud is turned off for music and all my music is local. The weaker my wifi signal, the longer it takes to load. Often I exit and reopen the app and there is no delay at all. Other times it takes several minutes to show my songs. In the past, with the old music app, everything always showed up immediately.

I am having this same problem with my iPhone 5. I think, for some reason, that the Music app is trying to connect to something via the internet. I also turned off iCould as well as Apple Music, but if you have a bad/weak signal the app is still taking a long time to load. I have found that if I put my phone in Airplane Mode, the Music app will load quicker, but this isn't really a good workaround.
