DMG Image not recognized

Hi Everybody,

I am using a new MacBook Pro with OS X Yosemite 10.10.4. I buy Microsoft Office 365 yesterday and I download the file (MicrosoftOffice2011.dmg). When I try to open it it gives error: Image not recognized. I am openning it with DiskMouth

Here are some of the things I try so far:

I download again (for more than 10 times) same outcome.

I download from Chrome, Safari... Same outcome.

I open another user for Mac and download from there. Same outcome.

I call Microsoft Office support. They say the problem is from the Apple side (Doubtful...)

So what else I can do? Any ideas?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

offhand in the details tab of the download page should be the size of the download.

is that the size of the dmg when you download it?

have you tried another browser? It's possible a plugin or a security app is picking up something in the dmg and corrupting it

or it's possible the download simply does not complete and you have a corrupt file

or it's possible MS has a crappy image posted and they need to replace it with a working one.

Thanks,

Not sure about DeryaDNC but the size of the files were comparable (or exactly the same) size between the the listed file size while downloading (i.e., download window) and the size of the file in the Download folder - this was tested across a number of browsers. I agree that the file is likely corrupt in some way (all other downloaded DMGs unpackage and install fine) but I don't believe that its from the download process. It is likely, as you say, a crappy image on the MS website that needs to be updated in order to work properly with OSX 10.10.4. My only hope is that there is away around it in OSX by altering some settings...... perhaps? Microsoft suggested that it's possible but they didn't know how, so I'm not overly optimistic.

Thanks!

Mike

Hello there,

FWIW, I had the exact same problem, migrating from a 2012 MBP Retina to a 2015 one.

What eventually worked was using a different browser (Chrome), and accessing the install file through this site:

https://www1.downloadoffice2010.microsoft.com/macdl/registerkey.aspx?ref=macdl&c ulture=en-US

I'm not sure it didn't take a few tries to do it, I have a feeling the issue is on Microsoft's side. In any event, one of the download tries eventually worked fine, I put my product key in the software and everything is running fine.

I spent all of last Friday talking to Microsoft support. The problem is definitely with them. I've tried downloading on multiple different browsers, on different computers, and on different networks. Every time the download shows as corrupted. At least part of the problem is their support team has absolutely no idea what they are doing, even at Tier 3. The tier 3 support rep I talked to actually wanted to use an archiver to try and open the disk image. Unfortunately, the download suggested here by JustTed only works if you have a license key and I've moved over to a subscription. They should be calling me back in about 10 minutes, but who knows if they actually have a solution or if they are just going to fool around some more.

Thanks for the update,

I agree that they were less than helpful, a complete waste of the my time and had no idea what they were doing. Their advice ranged from complete elementary recommendations (i.e., "try a different browser") to pointless and clearly a waste of time ("have you tried downloading in 'incognito' mode in Chrome"). Most of the time, I felt like they were moving the cursor on my screen just to make it look like they were doing something.

I hope the phone call this morning was helpful.

Either they were just moving around to look like they were doing something, or they have absolutely no experience with Mac OS X.

Of course, they did not call back at the agreed upon time which meant I was in a meeting when they called over an hour later. They left a message telling me that I could upgrade to Office 2016 because it would work with Exchange Server 2008. This is not true. I'm still nowhere, but at least I didn't have to spend an entire day getting there.

I had the same problem. After a few attempts with the Microsoft online chat, I got a hold of someone who took control of my computer and downloaded a different Office 2011 installation image. That one worked with no problems. Not sure if this means anything to anyone else, but the image was titled X19-49597.dmg. It was 967MB. The one that came from the MS 365 site was 966MB.

Using different browsers to download from the Office 365 Site didn't help at all.

I hope this helps someone.
