Cannot format Table of Contents

Hi,

I'm preparing a long document of 100+ pages on Pages 5.5.3. I've got all my Headings in place and a nice Table of Contents at the beginning as I want on the final product. For the most part, I was able to select the headings and sub-headings on the Table of Contents and choose the fonts, indents, spacing, and leaders I wanted.

My problem is that there are certain headings I simply cannot select. I'm using Heading 1 for my chapters, and if I click on one of the first 5 chapters I'm able to edit the format of that heading on the ToC. However, even though I'm using the exact same heading for the rest of the chapters, anything above Chapter 6 did not get formatted, and I'm unable to click on the heading on the ToC to format it. In general, I'm having trouble selecting any heading on the ToC, I'm clicking all over the place until what I want actually gets selected, but this specific heading never gets selected. Anyone else seeing something like this? More importantly, anyone have a solution on how to select a heading on the Table of Contents?

Thanks!

You can not select text in a TOC, that is formed automatically by Pages from specific paragraph Styles in the main document body text, but if you click on the TOC you can change the formatting of the various levels of the TOC, fonts, sizes, colors, tabs on rulers etc.

The TOC will not reference anything in separate objects such as Textboxes, Tables, Shapes etc.

You misunderstand my problem. I'm pretty sure its a bug in the program...

You say when I "click on the TOC you can change the formatting of the various levels of the TOC". I did this, painfully, for some of my headings. Other portions of the TOC are simply not selectable. I'm clicking all over the place to see when it randomly selects to change the font and "etc." you mention, some text I can never select.

I have not tested this with a document of 100+ pages. That possibly is behind the problem.

Hi again Vincent,

I did a test with a document of 186 pages by using some nonsense text (Lorem ipsum) to add padding. The TOC works just fine.

The 1 page at the bottom refers to the TOC Section ('View' button > Show Word Count and choose pages).

You can view this document on Dropbox:
