Old music appears in Recently Added

So far, my Apple Music experience has been quite good, syncing with 4 devices (2 Macs, iPhone, iPad). But on the Mac, I note that under "Recently Added", old albums from my library keep appearing. They are unchanged, but for some reason they are considered "new". So far, they are all albums that I ripped from CDs, not iTunes Store downloads.

These albums do NOT appear under "Recently Added" on my iOS devices, though in all other respects the sync of songs and playlists appears to work 100%.

This is obviously not a huge problem for me, but I am curious to see if others have observed it. My library is modest, about 25,000 tracks.

Take a look at my screen shots. Under "Recently Added", those 14 albums under "Today", constantly appear there. Those albums were added as far back as 2005 and through 2016. Everyday they appear in the added today view. I scrolled down a bit to show the "This Month" title line. Things pick up just fine there.

If I add music today, it will be lumped in with the 14 old albums under "Today" and tomorrow those 14 will be still "Today" again and the music I added today will be under a new line called "This Week".

I'm closing this nearly 2-year-old thread because for me, the issue is long gone. "Recently Added" is now simply a chronological listing of everything I've added, which sounds right to me. Older items no longer percolate to the top.

Very happy with Apple Music now, using 4 devices of my own plus family plan for everyone else.

Have any of you figured this out yet? Has been happening to me for while now. Same 14 albums keep showing in my added "Today" view. Its been months now. Yesterday I actually Duplicated the albums to my desktop. Deleted all of them from my local and cloud libraries. Changed the date on my computer to an arbitrary date in 2014. Added them back to my local iTunes library. Re-uploaded them to the cloud. (Apple Music & iTunes Match). Seemed like it worked. Restarted my laptop today and they are right back in the "Today" view. I'm dumbfounded.

I think they were only recently made aware of it that's why it's taken so long.

Thanks.

I'm not sure if ur issue is the same as mine but mine is that all my songs even songs from 2007 etc are showing in recently added on the mac. You would think this section would just show new or recent songs added but wierdly it shows older songs from a long time ago that weren't recently added

U seeing this too

Thanks

Basically in the recently added sectio on iTunes all my songs are appearing here even older songs from 10 years ago which are not recently added but yet they're being added to this section would should only show recently added songs or new songs hence the name recently added. I don't know why older songs are showing in a section that is supposedly for new or recent songs

I don't think you're having an issue. Contrary to what "recently added" sounds like on the surface, you can scroll through and it's will show your entire library labeled by date added. Not just what one would think "recently added" means.

It's shows like this:

RECENTLY ADDED >

Today

This week

This month

Last 3 months

Last 6 months

2016

2015

2014

2013

And so on until then end of your library "date added"

I guess "recently added" may sound like it will just show that, but it shows your entire library in date added chronological order.

Yeah Thags what others said too I just find my it a bit pointless it being called recently added if it adds older stuff too from 10 years ago that were not recently added

iOS just shows recent stuff only (so noting beyond last 6 months ) they all push down as new stuff is added on iOS but don't push down on iTunes on the mac

I just see it pointless it being called recently added if it adds older song a too. Why not call it all songs other something like that

@BradPDX, I have the exact same "issue" - while I agree that it's nothing to get upset about, it renders the Recently Added section in iTunes rather useless...

Like you said, it's old albums that have not been changed in any way, albums that have had the exact same metadata, artwork and lyrics for years - it doesn't make any sense to me why those specific albums are considered new by iTunes. For me it's mostly ripped music as well, but I've also had it happen with music that has been purchased from the iTunes Music Store years ago.

Right now I can see 11 album covers in the Recently Added section in iTunes on my iMac screen (in Albums view) - 10 of them are albums I've had for years... if I click on "show ... more" I get at least 50% old albums, the rest is stuff that has actually been added since Apple Music was released. I have never seen this occur on my iPhone or iPad and the sync between devices works flawlessly for me as well.

I love Apple Music, especially "For You" is fantastic and I'll subscribe for sure once the trial is over. The old-albums-issue is a small annoyance in the grand scheme of things and I have no problem ignoring it, but I'd still like to know what causes it.
