No Voicemail notification on Stright Talk after IOS update

I've recently lost the ability get my Voicemail from the Voicemail Tab on the iPhone. I can still hold and dial 1 which takes me to my Voicemail but as I no longer receive notifications when there are messages waiting, it's far from ideal. N.B There has never been support for Visual Voicemail on Straight Talk, but it would always provide notifications of messages as they were left; after clicking it would automatically dial the Voicemail tab.

I've tried resetting with the carrier (Straight Talk) several times and they concluded that it was an apple issue. I'm writing this from a Genius Bar where we just did a factory rest of the phone which did get my Voicemail working properly. However after updating, the problem returned. This doesn't seem to be an isolated or model specific issue either as my girlfriend has an iPhone 5 with the same issue. I've also seen other forums with other users having recent trouble with the same problem.

Just found a solution! Saw a similar thread. A simple SIM swap did it.

Step 1

Find an active T-mobile, Verizon or other compatible sim-card.

Step 2

Replace sim in your device until the new carrier shows up on the top left of the screen.

Step 3

Remove sim and replace with Straight Talk sim.

Like magic my voicemail notifications returned!

Contact your carrier again. VoiceMail is a carrier feature, including Visual VoiceMail.

Unfortunately, you're getting phone service from Wally World... don't expect much in the way of customer service or support.

That's nice. You need to be aware, though that if you're using an unlocked phone on StraightTalk, it's not supported. StraightTalk is only supported as a CDMA carrier, meaning you need a phone sold specifically for use on StraightTalk They are not a supported GSM carrier.

Thanks for the info but I've been using Straight Talk through the Bring Your Own Phone program for several years and it most certainly dose support GSM. Barring this issue which is now solved I get everything I need Unlimited Talk, Text and 5Gigs High speed LTE (unlimited data on Edge thereafter) for $43/month with no long term commitment.

Get another micro sim (borrow one or use an unregistered one), stick it in, wait a few seconds, pull it out and put your SIM back in. It was that simple on my wife's BYOP iPhone (found the solution on another apple thread). I used an extra sim that came in my straight talk package of sims.

I also use ST, the same plan as you, it does work well but ST are generally clueless about problems. I use mine on the AT&T network (ultimately ST are just a reseller of other peoples network). It is very cheap I will say.

ST supplied several Sim cards (one or 2 per network provider) so you can always use one of the others temporarily.
