Buying an iPhone off Craigslist - Do my conditions sound right?

Hello! I am buying an iPhone 5S off Craigslist and I wanted to hear your opinions about if you think this is a good choice. The seller seems very nice and willing to send pictures of the device to show off scuffs/the IMEI number. In more detail, we will also be doing/he has agreed to doing the following;

-Watch me setup the phone (it has been factory reset).

-We will be meeting in a public area (an electronics store in a mall). I am going with someone during the transaction.

-He advised me to test all ports, sounds, and Touch ID.

-Provided images of the phone (Front and back screen).

With the IMEI number he gave me, I also checked to see that the iPhone was not linked to an iCloud account or reported lost/stolen (although I've heard they can report after the sale I doubt this guy would do that). He explained how a few people have tried to cut his price hundreds to resell for higher prices. The ad has been up for a month and was edited about 17 days ago. We plan to meet tomorrow.

No matter where you purchase an iPhone that is not coming from a certified refurbisher, you are taking a risk. Sometimes people will sell you a phone for X amount of dollars and then report it stolen and pay for a replacement with their insurance, which is often less than what they charged you, netting them a profit. You, however, get screwed over because once reported stolen, the iPhone will not work on any US networks. Even on eBay, some con artists will wait out the eBay guarantee period to make it impossible for you to get a replacement.

You've asked the same question for a week now, gotten a lot of advice, most of it in agreement. What more ideas do you want? What you propose is very risky. People legitimately selling iPhones don't do it on Craigslist; they use eBay, where buyers have some protection. There are thousands of stories of people making deals on Craigslist, showing up, and being robbed. And occasionally murdered. There are also cases of people buying a phone on Craigslist, verifying that it works, then taking it home to find out it no longer works because the seller reported it stolen AFTER the sale to collect from insurance. Anyone legitimately selling an iPhone will ask the market price, which will be the same on Craigslist, eBay, and many other used equipment sites. If the price of this phone is below market price don't touch it. Have you ever heard the expression "if it's too good to be true, it isn't true?"

However you saw this was your opinion. We met earlier to day (give or take 6 hours) at a T-Mobile store. I set it up there and got service too. The phone was fully functional and exactly what was promised. He was a young man whom just joined the military. Regardless, the sale went well as planned and seller is trustworthy.

MY instincts were correct, and your negative thoughts weren't. You didn't even consider a possible outcome, you just thought of the negative things. Get more positive in your life. Good things will happen.
