PowerPoint viewer for Mac OS X?

Members of my political group keep sending me PP (PowerPoint) presentations.
QUESTION: Is there a PowerPoint viewer that works with Macintosh OS X? (From what I see, the answer is NO, but sometimes I miss things.)

I have OS 10.4.7. Thanks a lot.

Then I click onto QuickTime (I don't have
QuickTime PRO) and go to File. Then, at File, what
sub-menu option do I select to copy what I made in
Keynote to be changed into a QuickTime movie?

It's the other way around. You export into the new
format from the Keynote app. As Kyn said "With
Keynote you have options in that you can export as
pdf's, QuickTime movies, a series of images and
more." Once exported, you can email the stuff or put
it on a web page or whatever you want. I think
Keynote can export as Flash too.

With a name like iWork'06, I'm sure that '07 is right
around the corner!

I was thinking about that! So..... maybe I ought to format a newsletter with the trial version and then if I like it, wait for the '07 version to come out. Gawd, the way we have to play this game! 🙂

If you had Keynote on your screen with a finished project, you would see how it works right away. You would just do File > Export, and then you would have to choose between QuickTime, PowerPoint, PDF, Images, Flash, iDVD, and HTML. How well each of these would reflect the quality of the original project is hard to say, depends on the content, which can vary enormously.

Now I remember a lovely Christmas greeting that was sent to someone else, and he came over to show it to me. This was years ago in the 1990's when I was using System 8 or 9. My friend was all excited about his Mac and the greeting he had received from someone....... made with PowerPoint, actually. His enthusiasm was beautiful and I recall being impressed. I remember him showing me that it had an icon on it saying, "Made by Mac."

So... if Keynote can do what PowerPoint did, then I'll probably get it when it gets to '07. I can make a hardcopy Christmas newsletter with the Pages application and a Keynote digital file "newsletter" for non-computerized friends. If I time it right, I can use the Trial version of the iWorks '06 model.

Keynote can do it and I've done some fun things like this myself. Output to QuickTime, you can use it on any Mac. Keynote even exports to iDVD so makes it even MORE useful.

What fun things? After seeing your blog I now am curious to see those QUICKTIME movies. If you still have them, could you post a URL? I know that you are experimental and I want to be exposed so I can learn more.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! This looks like so much fun! And by the way, your last one, the third one, was prescient: It answered the question I was twiddling around in my head, albeit in a simpler form: I was wondering about importing to iWeb.

Keynote looks like a FUN thing, actually. Too bad I didn't have it while I was still working.

Oh: That second QuickTime move with the cause and effect sequence, ending up with the Honda was very very cool.

blimey I didn't imagine my Keynote suggestion would provoke such a lively debate! And I've never even used it!

Since we have Microsoft Office at work I've always used Powerpoint and Word - not the best products in the world to say the least.

Now after reading this thread I think I might have a look at the iWorks suite more closely myself - being Apple products you just know they're going to be more fun to use.

I'd be interested to know how a Keynote presentation exported to Powerpoint looks on a PC (worth a try - even the Mac version of Powerpoint doesn't always look right on a PC - I've had text losing formatting so we always have to test and correct the files on a PC before sending anything out. Extra work we could do without).

And Lorna, like you I'm always willing to try out new things, but at the end of the day if Keynote works I'd be much happier to use it than any third party product - just for the fact it's made by Apple, for Apple users.

Cruddy, actually. There are SO many things that PowerPoint can't do, it'd be just like the kind of headache you get from trying to make an iWeb site perfectly viewable with IE (same .png graphic problem is one of the issues!!)

One thing I've done it present one way, then make a REALLY simple (text-only or one of those ugly PowerPoint themes) presentation to "share". When they ask why it doesn't look like mine, I just say that PowerPoint can't handle the graphics so I had to bump it down to something PowerPoint to display. 🙂

Peelie, I'd REALLY like to see presentations made by Keypoint and also PowerPoint so that I get an idea of what can be done with it. Did you see the projects that Kyn made with his Keypoint? Do you have any URLs that I can click onto to see your projects? I am very interested in this.
