PowerPoint viewer for Mac OS X?

Members of my political group keep sending me PP (PowerPoint) presentations.
QUESTION: Is there a PowerPoint viewer that works with Macintosh OS X? (From what I see, the answer is NO, but sometimes I miss things.)

I have OS 10.4.7. Thanks a lot.

Yes, Pages allows for hyperlinks.

That's about it. Now, to add one more we've been seeing recently, "Share". Share is like an "Export" but we have an idea of what we want to do with it. You can export a movie out of iMovie then drop that movie into iWeb OR you can Share the movie and choose iWeb. They accomplish pretty much the same thing, but you always get more control with Export 🙂

Ah, thank you! I could almost envy people who still have to go to work and give presentations. I remember the old days with those boring old presentations with a cardboard on a wooden tripod. I also remember that when there would be meetings in the big, cavernous auditorium, I used to get out my red laser light and aim it at the screen. No one ever knew except for my buddy in crime, Merrill.

Yes it does. In the last example, if you click on the icon for the CD, it opens a link to the website where you can buy the CD.

On a first look - Pages is very like Word, and Keynote is very like Powerpoint, but both look much more intuitive in use. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I like that both Pages and Keynote have the same tools as iWeb - the Media palette and the Inspector palette, and the Adjust photos palette like in iPhoto ... I'm getting quite excited now (doesn't take much).

My Trial period has passed (I think I had a look out of curiosity when I first installed iLife but never tried anything out), so all the save options are greyed out. Am I right in assuming that you can "Export" or "Share" Keynote and/or Pages projects straight out to iWeb? That'd be cool and well worth the purchase.

OK Kyn - last (maybe) question ...

if I'm exporting to HTML, where do I export it to? Do I put it on my iDisk and then hyperlink it from an iWeb page? If so, where on iDisk?

I should be able to figure it out, but as soon as someone says "HTML" my brain ceases to function.

You export it to a folder locally then you can manually move that into your "Sites" folder on your iDisk. You may want to organize it into a further sub folder to keep everything neat.

Let's say that I go out and buy iWork '06 (because I can't wait for an iWork '07 which may never happen; it might be iWork '08, right?).

After installing Pages and Keypoint, where do I set the preferences for where to SAVE/STORE the work done in each application? In my new external hard drive or on my internal iMac drive?

A more general question is:

Provided that I have a honking huge external hard drive (which I do, at 500 gigabytes, or 1/2 terrabyte), which programs or KINDS of programs should be saved to the external honker and which kinds to the internal hard drive? I understand the concept that somehow having fewer programs saved on the internal HD means faster work time, but I don't understand Why, since to me, System Memory and Storage are two different things.

Also, a question about reading info about my Mac:

I know that I have 768 MB of RAM, which is MEMORY because that information is readily apparent when I click the Apple logo > About this Mac > More Info > Hardware overview. (And also I see it on the first click onto the Apple logo.)

RE: STORAGE: I know that I have 76.9 GB possible and 53 GB available of STORAGE on my hard drive by looking at the hard drive icon, which has that info below the icon. However, where in the above lineup of information (in the Apple logo click-a-thon) do I find that information about hard drive STORAGE? Yes, I did click around there before asking here.

You might get slightly different answers from different people on this but here's my tuppence worth (English money):

I'd guess there'll definitely be an iWork 07 out at the same time as iLife 07, but heck if we always waited for the next version of any Apple product to come out we'd never buy anything! If you can afford it go for it - buy yourself an early Christmas present!

As far as storage goes, I would ALWAYS keep my programs in Applications or Utilities folder on my Boot drive, current work in a Job folder on my Boot drive, and use my external as storage for archived documents and projects.

Not saying this way is absolutely necessary, I just have a gut feeling that my Mac will operate much more happily with things it can find in regular places.

Let's see if anybody agrees or disagrees with me - maybe I've been doing it wrong all these years ...

Re storage - have you thought about adding more RAM? i know iLife recommends at least 512MB, but I always think you can't have too much, particularly if you tend to have a few Applications open at the same time.

Lastly, you can see your Hard Drive info in your "Apple logo click-a-thon" if you look under Hardware ... Serial-ATA

First, I think there's a goooood chance of iWork '07 happening. No, I don't know anyone anywhere important, it's just that updating Pages and Keynote gives them another few bullet points to pad out the presentation 🙂

If you HAVE external space available, I'd save there. I say this because if your internal HD decides to go on a bender and lose all your data, you've only lost the stuff on your internal, but you've still got all of the things you've created on the external. Apps, program settings, etc. you can always easily re-create (even though it's a pain). Your unique works are not so easy (or as happy to do the second time).
