Mail Crashing

Hello.

My Mail app on my iMac developed an odd behaviour today. It's happened 4 times within 2 hours. When I click on an email (inbox or folder) in the left pane, Mail freezes up solid (no revolving rainbow; no mouse response; no keyboard response), and then the screen starts pixelating with what looks like bits of different emails strewn about like playing cards. And then without warning, I'm tossed out of Mail and I'm looking at the login screen. I put my password in the login field, and return to my desktop ... where Mail is closed, but opens again okay. After using it for a while, that same behaviour happens again. It's never done this before. I've never had any problems with my iMac or the Mail app. All other programs work just fine, no crashes, no freezes -- just Mail.

I'm quite happy to delete the accts, and start again fresh if you think this is the correct method of fixing the problem. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

p.s. - I'm new to Apple, so I'm not terrible familiar with the inner-workings of Yosemite 10.10.4.

The graphics processor is failing and will have to be replaced if you want to keep using the machine.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.

If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair

Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
