System/Library/Extension/Apple02Audio.kext cannot be used, Please reinstall however I cannot find file or which program it goes with!

Imac Core Duo 2GHz 2GB ram 1TB HD, OS X 10.6.3 About two weeks after installing this OS I get this error message "System extension cannot be used". System/Library/Extension/Apple02Audio.kext cannot be used, Please reinstall however I cannot find this file in the Library or know which program it goes with! So that makes it a little harder to reinstall that file. I started HD utility to repair permissions first. WOW! it looked like it was repairing every file on the HD with repair time saying it will take 2 days and 4 hours. Since the OS only takes 45 Minn.. to install something is majorly screwed up. Where do I begin? Now it says 2 days and 6 hours!

Alternatively, forget about repairing permissions and install the 10.6.8 COMBO update

Thanks Eric, I ran it over high and finally shut it off, unfinished. When I started disk utility the next day there were just as many permissions to repair again! What next?

As you suggested baltwo, I am now updated to 10.6.8 and once again I am reminded by a popup "System extension cannot be used and to reinstall again". The file info date of being last opened is November 24, 2008, looks like this file wasn't replaced with the update. How would I go about re\install just that file? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Download and install Pacifist and use it to extract and install it from the COMBO update psckage, if it exists there. If not, then try an earlier COMBO update package.

Thanks baltwo for getting back to me so quickly!

From what I have read "Pacifist" is a great program for the newer systems however, I am using an Imac Core Duo 2GHz and now a fully updated OS X 10.6.8 (which is as high as I can go with this machine) and a 32-bit Intel™ processor.

What "Pacifist" needs for compatability is a Mac OS X 10.8 or higher, and requires a 64-bit Intel™ processor there by making it's use impossible for my situation. Dealing with older systems can be very taxing to say the least! I do hope you may know another work around?

There is a link on the main Pacifist page to a download page with older versions, compatible all the way back to OS X 10.2.x.
