macbook pro late 2007 RAM and HD upgrades

Late 2007 Macbook Pro 2.4/2.2 running OS Snow Leopard slowly... I wish I hadn't upgraded. I'm looking at ways to improve speed and to also increase my HD. I only have 15.5 GBs free right now. I'm trying to confirm how much RAM is possible to upgrade to- apple says 4 but some forum users say 6. Also wondering if this is worth the cost. I've spent about $350 over the past few years to replace the graphics card and something else I forgot last year.... sooo, if I do anything, it needs to cost no more than that and last me a good while. Everything else about the laptop is great, and it's been some places (Rwanda, Mexico, Guatemala, Cuba!).

It can unofficially support up to 6GB. The Apple specs say 4GB because at the time, that is what was available.

The hard drive may be the most important upgrade. You want to ensure you have at least 15% of the hard drive free. Usually 15.5 GB free is barely enough.

Upgrading the RAM will give you a modest improvement, as long as it is high quality RAM stated to be for your age MacBook Pro by the RAM vendor:

All sell the correct type of RAM. Do not buy ValueRAM.

The first one also sells larger capacity hard drives for your Mac.

You can upgrade RAM as follows:

Maximum Memory	6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots	2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM

Reliable vendors include OWC, DataMem, and Crucial.

If it were me I would get a newer computer.

just want to add that i'm looking at the micron site and these upgrades are pretty affordable. anyone have any recs for SSD size? I think 500Gbs is plenty for me.
