What's wrong with my new iPod?

ok so I downloaded n installed iTunes on my laptop then plugged my new iPod into it via the usb cable. Then the little blue iTunes logo with usb graphic came on iPod screen. After a few minutes though the blue round iTunes graphic with usb turned into a red round iTunes graphic with usb (see image). It's a new iPod so I don't know what problem is n why it won't work or syn. I tried restoring it but it won't let me and I help both buttons on iPod to do manual restore but it still won't work n image is still red.

please help???User uploaded file

That looks like a connect to iTunes and restore icon.

- Are you saying the when you connect iTunes does not see the iPod?

- Try restoring/connecting with a known-good cable.

- Try on another computer, one that works with an iOS 8 device.

Try DFU mode and then restore to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X

Or

See

iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows

- I would start with

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

or

Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

- Then do the other actions of:

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

paying special attention to item #5

- New cable and different USB port

- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause
