Lost pages documents

I Just opened pages on my iPad to discover that all my documents are gone, including some pretty important ones. Has anyone else experienced this? is there a known recovery options?

My wife iPad lost all Pages documents after upgrading last week to 9.0.2

Also upgraded my macbook to El Capitan and all data disappeared, iTunes - empty, photos- empty, email accounts not remembered etc. Thank christ for time machine, I went back to Yosemite, and am staying there. The iPad though is missing the documents.
