How can I force iTunes to run offline?

Hi,

I want to use iTunes on my work laptop sometimes (this is OK with the company I work for) but I don't want it connecting to the internet and using bandwidth in the background.

Basically I want to use it like a CD player without the CD- I have already loaded the music into iTunes so there should be no need to use the online features of the programme.

I am using 12.2.1.16 64-bit

Any help greatly appreciated!

There is no offline mode, but you can reduce the data that is used with the following:

  • Edit > Preferences > General
    • Show Apple Music > Off
    • iCloud Music Library > Off
    • Automatically retrieve CD track names from Internet > Off (only happens when ripping CDs)
  • Edit > Preferences > Store
    • Automatic Downloads > All Off
    • Sync playback information across devices > Off
    • Sync podcast subscriptions and settings > Off
    • Automatically download album artwork > Off
    • Share details about your library with Apple > Off
  • Music > View > Only Music Available Offline (Repeat with Movies & TV Shows)
  • Podcasts > Turn off all automatic checking and downloading

Signing out of the iTunes Store also helps. as would turning off Genius if I could spot where that is done now.
