MacBook rattle - loose battery?

Hi all,

Try this: open your rMB and shake it fairly vigorously left and right, horizontally (like this). Hear a sound like an object knocking against the casing? Quite a large object?

Mine does this, and so do two others that I tested in an Apple Store, so it's clearly quite common, if not ubiquitous. The funny thing is that sometimes it doesn't do it at all – most of the time it does, though.

I'm assuming it's the battery, but anyone got any thoughts? Anyone definitely NOT getting any rattle at all?

Lanny, when you look at the photos in iFixit, you can see (eg step19), that the only thing that could have a little play is the trackpad...

This trackpad is not a very lightway item.

On mine it is the screen (easily tested by gently pinching the screen), and it's not normal. It's something that has started only recently. I have a 2nd MBP here and that doesn't make the sound.

I have this problem too. And the sound actually comes from the screen. It appears to be the light guide plate inside the screen assembly which is only glued by a thin flimsy adhesive.

It is the screen. I had mine replaced a few weeks ago under Apple Care. Problem solved. Time will tell if it happens again.

And I found from the Internet that Apple's laptops produced from 2013 to 2016 all have the same issue like this. I am just wondering that why Apple has done nothing about it.
