iCloud mail folders aren't showing in Apple Mail

I have setup several folders on iCloud mail. These usually sync and show in the mailbox pane (left most pane) in Apple Mail. On my MacBook Air they appear and react perfectly, as they should, but on my iMac they don't appear. I fact, mail creates a strange square icon in the sent items mailbox. Completely different to my MacBook.

When disabling the account on my iMac and re-enabling the account again, the problem persists.

I've also tried to create a new folder on the iCloud account via Apple Mail. It doesn't show in mail nor online.

Something is broke and I don't know how to fix it.

Please help if you can 🙂

I had this same problem as well and I'll tell you what fixed it for me.

Assuming that you have iCloud set to sync your Mail (in System Preferences > iCloud) then you should be seeing the iCloud folder in Mail's left pane, but you are not (my problem - see image below). Scroll past the image for my solution.

How I fixed it:

In Mail, go to the pulldown Mailbox > New Mailbox...

Select iCloud as the Location, and give it a random name like below, then click OK.

After several seconds, iCloud appeared in the left pane with Test Folder under it. It's as if it needed a reason to exist and then appeared once it had a folder to show.

After this I was able to drag folders from my On My Mac folder to underneath the iCloud header, and they are now syncing. Give it time though; it's not immediate.

I hope that works for you!
