I have a Macbook Pro Early 2013-just bought a Dell P2415Q monitor. Do I understand correctly that my Early 2013 will not support 4K. Should I consider returning the monitor?

I am new to Macbook. I bought a refurbished Macbook Pro- Early 2013, and just bought a Dell P2415Q monitor.

Do I understand correctly that my Early 2013 will not support 4K. Can anyone comment on my limitations

with the Early 2013? Would this monitor give better results even though it may not run 4K than others.

Should I consider returning the monitor-purchased at $399 and buy a less expensive since the 4K may not work

or keep it?

Thanks

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), HD Graphic 4000 1024MB

Supported displays and configurations

You can use 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with these Mac computers:

  • MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013 and later)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013)
  • iMac (27-inch, Late 2013 and later)
  • Mac mini (Late 2014)
  • MacBook Air (Early 2015)
  • MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)

The 4K monitor will work but at lower resolution but will fill the entire screen. It does look very good. I am using the same monitor at 1920x1080.

I only use 4K resolution on my later 2013 Mac Pro when I want the resolution like photo editing. Otherwise the icons and other things are very small.

Thanks so much for your reply.

I did buy the monitor for photo editing.

I didn't realize my Early 2013 would not run the 4K.

Do you have an opinion about whether or not I would be better off with a different kind of monitor?

I just got the Del P2415Q today and do have the option of returning it.

Thanks again
