Whats up with residual sound artifacts?

When I play a song and stop it, go back to the beginning, and play it again, sometimes I hear a bit of the end of the song spit out at the beginning, as if it's stuck in a cache and needs to clear itself.

The worst is when I bounce and sometimes get these residual sound artifacts from the last play-through (like the end of a reverb tail) pasted onto the start of the bounce.

Do you know what this is and is there a way to get rid of it (like clear audio cache?)

TIA

If we're talking about the same thing, it was never fixed. It's happened to me on all versions of 7.

It happens mostly with Space Designer, as well as a handful of 3rd party instruments, such as Spectrosonics Atmosphere and Trilogy.

There's no "fix" that I'm aware of. My solution is to simply hit play and then stop at the start of the song, in fairly quick succession, 2 or 3 times in a row, to let the buffers empty out, before bouncing anything.

It's not ideal, but it certainly works.

I find that its easiest to engage the solo button with nothing selected and then hit play to empty the buffer. That way you don't risk filling the buffer again by not hitting stop on time.

Good tip. Since I tend to leave 2 or 3 bars of blank space at the top of my songs, that's not an issue for me personally, but someone who starts their song at bar 1, beat 1 could make use of that, for sure.

I have seen this discussed with the Logic developers on Apple's Core Audio API mailing list.

The issue is due to third party AU's not functioning properly. When starting playback, Logic sends a reset message to the AU plugins (specifically, AudioUnitReset() ), instructing them to clear their buffers. Some plugins do not respond to this message and fail to clear their buffers, so you hear the end of what was last played.

If you have any plugins that do this, please ask the developer to fix them.

If the plugin developers need any more information on this issue, they may contact logic-au@group.apple.com, the address for Audio Unit developers to contact the Logic development team. If they feel it is a bug in Logic, please encourage them to file a bug report with Apple so it may get fixed.
