New note vanished and didn't save/sync using icloud.com

This is the second time it's happened. I create a new note using icloud.com on my Windows 7 PC at work (Chrome browser) and I go on to a different site or click on a different note and it disappears. I refresh the page, log out/back in and even check my other devices - the note was never syncing to iCloud and it's gone. This never happens when I create a note using my Notes app on my iPhone or Mac and it's really annoying. My only thought as a workaround is to CTRL+C when I'm done that way if the note vanishes I still have the text saved and can try again pasting it into a new one. But of course this isn't ideal for a cloud snycing service. This is a horrible bug and it makes me want to find another service instead of icloud.com. The least they could do is add a manual sync button that way if the site fails to autosync I can make sure it does before I close the tab and lose everything I wrote.

Sorry, I do not have an answer, but I have this exact same problem. New notes created at icloud.com using Safari on my macbook air with OS X Yosemite will sometimes disappear if I click on another note - even after waiting a long time to make sure the note saved.

I have also had this happen many times using Firefox from my work PC running Windows 7 Pro.

This bug is maddening - I just lost a long project shopping list I was typing.

If Apple cannot fix the auto-save behavior for Notes, maybe a 'save' button in the browser interface would help?

This just happened to me again.

I went to icloud.com and started editing one of my notes.

I noticed that the date/time tag in the note list stopped updating.

If I went to icloud Home and back to Notes, my changes were still there, but the time tag in the Notes list was wrong (i.e. it had not saved)

No matter what I did, it would not save.

I reloaded icloud.com in the browser and all changes were lost. (luckily I copied everything to clipboard first.

I edited the same note and this time it saved changes as I made them.

I spoke with Apple Support today because my Notes on my iPad and iPhone do not synch with my MacBook Pro.

The problem is that the current version of Notes in iOS 9 and OS X are not compatible.

Notes on iPad and iPhone, using iOS 9, should synch with each other, but not with Macs using OS X Yosemite.

To see all of your Notes on your Mac, you will need to sign in to https://www.icloud.com/ with your web browser. This is the only way to see all of your notes on your Mac.

This is a known, although unpublicized, issue to Apple. They will be issuing an update to OS X on approximately Friday, October 2, 2015 that will solve this issue.

Hi Yank7 - thanks for posting, but the problem you are describing has nothing to do with the issue Manny and I are describing in this thread. Our issue is that the web-browser version of icloud.com is not saving new or edited notes. This has nothing to do with IOS 9, nor OS X in any way. In fact it happens when accessing icloud from a windows PC too, AND it has been happening many months before IOS 9 was released.

It is interesting you say the IOS 9 to OS X syncing issue is "unpublicized" because after I installed IOS 9 on my phone and used the Notes app it popped up a detailed warning screen that told me clearly - if I enabled the newer version of Notes it would not sync properly with OS X devices until El Capitan is released - all I had to do was read the warning. So not sure I would call your issue "unpublicized"?

I've seen the same thing happen to me a few times as well. I create a note on iCloud.com and the next day most of it is gone. Luckily I had to copy those notes to emails or other document so I was able to recover the information.

I used Chrome. Once it happened on my Windows 8.1 laptop and the other on my Win 10.

I believed it started happening after iOs 9 and the newly resigned Note. I do use rich text formatting. I wonder if that might have something to do with it.

As a side notes, why won't Chrome see my typos in notes, it sees them in all other browser tabs???

I also do frequently experience (even today) in-browser iCloud to say it Could not Save changes to notes - both Chrome and Safari (El Capitan, all up-to-date, MacBook Pro'12, 16GB ram).

Moreover,

For almost 2 years (last was a month ago) I have been observing a note to vanish on its own from up-to-date iOS devices. Once I actually saw the note swipe to the side and vanish without me touching the screen, and 'no' my screens have not been replaced/cracked or side-damaged to have 'ghost touch' issues.

I wrote e-mails and even spoke directly to representatives from the Apple call center to roll back and recover some notes. They said their engineers investigated and insist there was nothing wrong with the Service (and the problem was I was using Notes on too many devices: 4 at that time; then, I’ve had issues even with only 2 devices).

Ok, if they said so, there was little I could do except warn people via forums and frequently back up my notes’ folder located here on a Mac:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/

(just copy/paste folder “com.apple.Notes” elsewhere)

Now, hopefully as there are other people seeing notes disappearing, the Apple engineers would re-consider their firmness regarding the issue and feedback attitude in general.
