upgrading boot camp on snow leopard

Hi fellows,

I'm using a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.8) and a Boot Camp Windows XP SP2 partition. My boot camp version is 3.0.4

Life was ok until I wanted yesterday to use a Windows software that requires Service Pack 3 of Win XP.

I ended up into this known bug : Boot Camp: Installing Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) - Apple Support

I tried to find some link that allows me to download some package for upgrading my (old) Boot Camp but couldn't find any.

The Apple menu 'Software updates' tells me my computer is fully up to date.

But I can see Boot Camp has reached the version 5.

Can I download somewhere a more recent version of Boot Camp or is my fate to upgrade my Mac to Yosemite?

(which I cannot due to the Windows partition apparently)

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Bootcamp (BC) is part of OS X, and Software Update will provide the latest version of BC Assistant. BC Drivers is separate from BC Assistant.

You can use System requirements to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support to download BC Drivers. In your case, the "grey" DVDs may be what you have to start with.

If you have the SP3 updater, both into Windows (SP2) and run the update, do you see any errors? BC is not involved in a self-contained Windows XP SP2 installation.

Er... Sorry but have you read the Apple support page link that I provided?

It says:

If you attempt to install Microsoft Windows XP SP3 on an Intel-based Mac (Mac Pro, Mac Mini, MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or iMac) that is running Windows XP SP2 via Boot Camp, an "Out of disk space" alert may appear even when there may be adequate disk space to install the update.

Update to the most recent version of Boot Camp. Updating should allow the installation to complete.

My bad if I misunderstood what you suggested. 😊

There are a couple of packages you should consider (since i do not know the exact model of your MBP).

Boot Camp Software Update 3.3 for Windows

Boot Camp 3.2 Update for MacBook Pro (early 2011)

Boot Camp Software Update 3.1 for Windows 64 bit

Boot Camp Software Update 3.2 for Windows 64 bit

Apple - Support - Search is a specific search for Bootcamp 3.

You do not need to update BC Assistant (BC software utility built in to the OS X side). The nomenclature can be confusing.

Yes ! Seems to be the right way: Have googled for "boot camp update windows xp" and found Boot Camp 2.1 pour Windows XP

which says:

Important : vous devez d'abord installer Boot Camp 2.1 avant d'installer Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)

In English: Important: You shall install Boot Camp 2.1 before installing Windows XP Service Pack 3

Sounds very promising... 🙂

I'm delighted to say that this problem is now fixed. 😎

The issue was that I hadn't fully installed Boot Camp on Windows XP.

I inserted the OSX Install CD, which started automatically to install Boot Camp.

I ended up with a BC icon in the control panel and the view of my Mac HD from Windows Explorer.

Then executing the Service Pack 3 worked like a cham.

And the program that requires SP3 started perfectly. 🙂

Thanks a lot for your assistance. You made my day. 😍
