iphone doesn't sync to windows laptop

Since my most recent update of the iPhone OS, my iPhone 5S no longer sync's my contacts, calendars, appointments ect with my Windows 8.1 laptop. I'm now forced to duplicate each entry so ensure I don't miss something. Before the update, this wasn't a problem.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4

What are you trying to sync the contacts, calendar, etc. to? Can you sync music? Is the iPhone recognized by iTunes? What troubleshooting have you tried? Is updating iOS the only thing that you did before the problem you are facing? Did the problem occur immediately after the update?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for responding.

  1. I am trying to sync my contacts, calendars ect in Outlook 2013 on my laptop with my contacts, calendars ect on my iPhone 5S. I input new listings in each of the products separately and sync them together later.
  2. Music sync's from my laptop using the Windows version of iTunes to my iPhone with no problems (I just added a album CD to my iTunes library and sync'd it immediately to my iPhone..
  3. The iPhone is recognized by iTunes.
  4. I've looked at what suggestions from Apple were for trouble shooting and all I saw was how to set up both system initially. I did that two generations ago on my original iPhone and have done updates as they came available from Apple for both the OS used on my iPhone and any updates for iTunes.
  5. Everything worked fine until my most recent updating of both the OS for my iPhone and iTunes, which were done one day apart. The problem was noticed within two days when I went to do my normal sync activities connecting my iPhone to my laptop and nothing that I had added to either system sync'd over to the other.

If I've ever had an issue in the past, I made an appointment with the local Apple store's Genius Bar and things were solved in a matter of minutes. Now, the two local Apple store's do not take new Genius appointments unless it is for problems based on recently purchase Apple products.

Unfortunately, syncing between the iPhone and Outlook at times can be contentious. I experienced some issues with one of the updates before iOS 8.4, and it took a while to recover from. I know that I ran scanpst.exe from Windows on the Outlook.pst file, reset sync in iTunes and a number of other things, so remembering exactly what fixed it is escaping me, but I believe I discussed it with someone else, so I'm trying to find that. It just seems that sometimes working between Windows and Apple can be a problem. If you can, give me a little time to research what I did and I will get back to you.

By the way, where are you located that the Genius Bar will not take appointments except for newly purchased products? I've never heard of that before. Are you trying to make the appointment online, or via telephone? I've never known Apple to deny an appointment no matter what it was. I'd just make the appointment online for an iPhone.
