iPd, iTunes disagree on free space

My iPad thinks it has 1.5 GB free; iTunes says it has 8.58 GB free. That's a pretty big discrepancy.

I tried the fix suggested in this thread: iPad and iTunes disagree on storage space. It didn't work. Also tried a straight restart of the iPad, and restarting iTunes, both with the iPad connected, and not. No joy.

I'd appreciate any other suggestions.

This seems to be a chronic/recurring problem with iOS. Can someone explain it to me?

Thanks for any advice/assistance.
