Not getting iMessage notification in lock screen

For some reason I no longer get a notification when I get an iMessage from my wife, when my phone's locked I get notifications from other contacts both text and iMessage as well as notifications from Twitter, LinkedIn etc... but for some reason just not from my wife.

I've looked in Notification Centre and alerts are set on for Lock Screen and banner alerts when unlocked, I've tried a hard reset, switching it off and on again but doesn't change it.

Is there a way to set notification settings for individual contacts or something else I can try? I assume I've done something without realising it but can't figure out what.

Good Afternoon MTGC8682,

From your description, it sounds like your wife may have been added to a blocked list for Messages. Take a look at this resources:

Block calls and block or filter messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201229

View or edit your blocked list

You can see the contacts and phone numbers that you've blocked in Settings under Phone, FaceTime, or Messages:

  • Settings > Phone > Blocked
  • Settings > FaceTime > Blocked
  • Settings > Messages > Blocked

User uploaded file

From this screen, you can add more people to your blocked list, or tap Edit to unblock someone.

MTGC8682, if this did not resolve your issue, try removing your wife from the Contacts app, and then re-adding her information. Here are a few more resources regarding Notifications:

Take care,
