Groups in contacts

Just updated from iPhone 4 to iPhone 6. Contacts synced but not groups of contacts. All I have is a long list. Groups still exist on my MacBook Pro and iPad. How do I get them on to my new phone.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Press the Groups button at top-left of Contacts app to select the groups to view, then press Done (top-right).

For more control of Contacts groups, there are apps, such as:

A2Z Contacts https://itunes.apple.com/app/a2z-contacts-contact-manager/id622492105

Address Book Plus https://itunes.apple.com/app/address-book-plus/id298790016

Sorry, not helpful. I have no separate "Contacts" button. To get to them I have to go to phone, then choose contacts from the choices at the bottom. When I select this, there is no "Groups" button anywhere. don't know if this is my carrier (Verizon) or the fact that my iPad is still OS 7.1.2

Thanks for the contacts management suggestions, but does this mean I need to upgrade across all devices?

The Contacts app, not the Contacts button in the Phone app, has the Groups button. The Phone app ignores groups, and just shows all contacts.

Any contacts groups on the Mac will be synced via iCloud to all iOS devices. Any group additions or changes made with the group management apps will also be synced to the Mac and other iOS devices.

Any purchased app can be use on all iOS devices that use the same AppleID.
