I am about to replace a much loved but tired 2006 macbook 10.4.11 with a new macbook pro. The old macbook has vm ware fusion running windows xp purely for an old version of Microsoft Money that I have used for 9 years for our small business. Is it in any way possible to copy all of that valuable information across from one macbook to the other so we can continue using microsoft money or am I going to have to start all over again?

ibook, Mac OS X (10.4.9), iphone 4, mac mini, Apple tv 40gb, macbook

You should be able to copy the XP Virtual Machine file (in the Documents/Virtual Machines folder) to your new MBP. Get the current version of Fusion and open the XP VM with it. You'll be asked if you copied or moved it; answer "moved." You'll also have to update VMware Tools.

One thing you should be sure to do is shut down the Virtual Machine on the old Mac before you move the VM file to the new Mac. Another is to keep the upgrade of the VM to the current version of Fusion as simple as possible by deleting any snapshots using Fusion on the old Mac first.

Also, keep in mind that XP has been largely abandoned by Microsoft when it comes to security updates. You can get around that by turning it into a "POSReady" version of XP (search on that). Once it's on the new Mac and VMware Tools is updated, create a snapshot, follow the POSReady instructions, and see if it works for you.
