Keyboard backlight will not turn off after W10 install

I previously ran W8.1 before W10 install. In W8.1 the system would boot with the keyboard backlight fully lit but I could it off or down as I wished. After installing W10 it comes on fully lit and cannot be adjusted. The system is running Windows under Bootcamp, not virtually. This is a MacBook Pro Mid 2010.

Sorry for the delay in answering. I think the real issue is that Apple has decided that my MBP 15 Mid 2010 does not "officially" support W10 in Bootcamp even though it works just fine aside from the keyboard backlight issue. It has to be a driver issue and if Apple has decided not to update the Bootcamp keyboard driver for my model I'll just have to live with it. My MBP Bootcamp is still on the Bootcamp 5 drivers and won't download Bootcamp 6. I did redownload and reinstall all of the BC 5 drivers on the MBP. No joy. I could find no "Light Sensor driver" in BC or within Windows. I also have a late 2012 Mac Mini running W10 in BC and Windows Update downloaded BootCamp 6 for me. I am not going to try the 6 drivers on my MBP because it is for a different computer that does not have a built in backlit keyboard for fear of making this worse.

If the backlight turns off when I am running Windows in clamshell mode with an attached keyboard and monitor I'll be fine. When I get a chance to try that I will update.

"D'OH!" (slaps forehead). It's the fn key, dummy!

Change from W8.1: the check box that governs function keys in the Keyboard tab of BC Control Panel is now checked. It was not before I upgraded from W8.1. So it's all working now, both keyboard and screen backlighting by pressing the fn key first. That's another thing to check if this issue comes up for anyone else.

Now I have to eat my words about Apple's driver policy. Is there a good wine that goes with that?

I have a 2013 Macbook Pro Retina. Recently (March 2016), I upgraded to El Capitan, then upgraded my bootcamp partition from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, along with the Apple bootcamp 6 update. The bootcamp console gives me the ability to turn off the keyboard light, after a timeout. But the keyboard always lights up, when I type, even if the Macbook is closed, when I'm using an HDMi monitor. I'm observing this behavior by keeping the display lifted just a fraction of an inch so that I can see if the keyboard is lit up.

I had similar behavior with Windows 8.1, so I am assuming that this problem is still not fixed. I can turn down the keyboard brightness with the function keys, but it would be nice if the keyboard turned off, when in clamshell mode.
